We surprised some of our neighborhood friends with May Day flowers -- I think they were really surprised! My kiddo was actually at home recovering from a cold, so I had extra help making the paper cone basket thingamabobs. She picked out everything herself and had the grandest time making her sneaky stealth deliveries and hanging the baskets on the door knobs of her pals.
The rainbow basket we saved; just couldn't part with it.
I think leaving flowers for people on May Day is SO much fun and why have I never done it before ever in my life? FUN, I tell you!
What a sweet idea. They look absolutely gorgeous. I just discovered your blog via your guest post on Pen Pals and Picture Books. What a happy discovery! I'm now following and looking forward to reading more. :)
ReplyDeletesadly, we did not get around to this yesterday. but it will be top on our list next year.
ReplyDeletethe baskets are so sweet and pretty, i'm sure the neighbor girlies loved them :) i know me and my girls would have.
*i could not have parted with a rainbow paper cone either, Julia
They're gorgeous! We don't have any neighborhood kiddie friends (sad, I know!) but I love this idea. Who wouldn't love a pretty little cone of flowers left at their door? :)
ReplyDeleteI want to be your neighbor. I love that julia got to be sneaky, my kids would love that!
ReplyDeleteThanks sweet ladies! We love the stealth surprising! Our neighborhood does that at Halloween, the whole neighborhood participates. You leave anonymous little bags of treats on the doorstep of one neighbor, the Boo'ing thing, have you guys done that? We left a Happy May Day note in these cones, so they would know they came from Julia! Then one of our neighbors left a stealth thank you note back, so Julia thought that was GRAND...:)
ReplyDeleteThose are fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Miss T -- Also, I realized that if you were to lengthen the strap and turn it upside down, they could be birthday party hats! Or old fashioned dunce caps! It's a toss-up.
DeleteI grew up in a very small town(Chinook,WA) and the entire town participated in the mayday basket thing. An entire evening of kids running from house to house and stealthily leaving cone bouquets. I remember it fondly. I don't know why I didn't do it with my kids. Or maybe we did and I have forgotten:)
ReplyDeleteAndrew says you guys used to do it all the time!! He thinks you guys used to collect camellias! So sweet!
DeleteSo cute! Also, I hope Julia feels better! Spring colds are the worst, just when you're ready to get out and enjoy some nicer weather-- BAM germs keep you cooped up and sniffling on the couch. :(
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I live in fear of the spring time -- that's when we typically get most hammered by illnesses -- I consider this year a success b/c J hasn't had to be on a nebulizer -- last yr between the months of March and June, she got some really yucky upper respiratory illnesses. And I got an awful sinus infection. WTH! (what the hey :)
DeleteI totally skipped out on May Day this year, but the daughters had a sweet treat waiting when we came home that evening - 2 cones filled with candy and paper flowers anonymously left by a friend. We're going to have to do this next year. Your flowers look beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh how fun! I think maybe next year we'll try our hand at making some paper flowers -- they might last a little longer!
Deletethat looks so cute and so fun--we must do this next year~ what a great way to make someone's day!
ReplyDeleteYou guys will have the greatest time, I know it!!
DeleteIt's our anniversary! I have officially been reading Julia's Bookbag for one year. I saw this link on your FB page yesterday and realized it was the first post I ever read here. Happy May Day!
ReplyDeleteI realized that too, darling Ness! How fun. Happy May to you!! xoxoxo
