Cool Stuff I Like

Happy Almost The Weekend! The other day we went with some friends to a bat class for kids. I learned a TON! I had no idea bats were such useful animals, I really didn't. And I had no idea how many of us might be living with them in our attics....And most are super tiny!! Like really teeny tiny! Didn't know that either. I felt very ignorant after coming out of that class, but hey, now I've learned something.

COOL STUFF I liked this week:

Ness, from One Perfect Day, had the most lovely things to say about our blog! Thank you Ness! Also, you must check out her series on 10 Simple Ways to Connect with Your Child. It's amazing.

Exquisite, teeny, tiny little books

I'm making Ina Garten's Old-Fashioned Banana Cake for my brother's birthday.

In honor of our recent Pippi post....Pippi toys! (via Frolic)

Colored Tape Art. (love this!)

Perfect Puzzles for summer travel. (We have the ocean puzzle.)

Mystery Gift Boxes. I'm so intrigued! The July ones are sold out, there will be more in Aug. $15!

Just got wind of 'Summer In February'! Look how much hotter Downton Abbey Matthew looks here! (I wrote about the chemistry problem between Matthew & Mary here.) I'm there.

Cool Book of the Week: 'Over the Hills and Far Away' by Ineke Verschuren and Daniela Drescher. Friends, I saw this book on Pinterest and just about lost it. I adore Daniela Drescher, she has the most charming art style. Look at the cover! Are you looking? The book contains 40 stories about gnomes, elves, fairy folk and leprechauns! The tales hail from Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland, Flanders, Spain and Scandinavia! I AM SO GETTING THIS. OH YES.

HAVE A LOVELY WEEKEND! We might be doing some indoor camping and dodging the thunderstorms that are supposed to roll in...

  2. I am a big fan of those Pippi toys and I will definitely be checking out the Indie mystery box. Thank you for introducing me to the book above and artist. Illustration is my favorite form of art, especially from classic and modern children's lit. I am adding those books to my Amazon wish list ASAP! :)

  6. We live next door to my in laws and they have bats in their attic. On summer nights between dusk at dark you can watch them flying out. My grandmother also had bats living in her attic when I was a kid. It was always our favorite to watch the bats fly out and I also have memories of stray bats getting into the main part of the house, flying about and causing major chaos :)

Love that tape art! And those mystery gift boxes sound awesome :)

    1. So it really is true!!! :) I really wonder if we have any in ours. I really had no idea that BATS ARE OUR FRIENDS. But that we shouldn't try and touch one. (Apparently most do not have rabies, contrary to public opinion)

I am now obsessed with the mystery gift boxes. I want a mystery gift box!

  8. How am I just getting to this post on Tuesday? Ok, bats-- they eat mosquitos so they are wonderful! We hate mosquitos!

I got the Lauren Pippi at the library today, the girls are very excited to start it, but we must finish the borrowers first.

I know one isn't supposed to judge a book by it's cover and all, but that book by Daniela Drescher-- the cover looks fantastic! You're so 'in the gmone' about all things magical creature. (In the gnome--sorry that was pretty lame!)
