Home Life

Summer update: Growing things, our lightest sheets, fresh herbs, blankies on heads, and kitties in boxes, (lately everything we own has been on the floor -- why bother to put stuff away when it's just coming back out again?).

Aside from some minor meltdowns (and don't think I exclude myself from those by the way) -- and aside from the somewhat flaky weather we've been having....it's been a good summer so far. We've seen a ton of movies, read a mountain of books, eaten a lot of sushi, cookies and strawberries. I think more tea parties are in order though. And I think more indoor camping is in order as well because I remain staunchly unconvinced that it's ever going to be warm enough at night to sleep in a tent outside.

Three waves of relatives are about to come through town, a few weddings to attend, a couple more day camps and then.....and then....time to start getting ready for school??? What?

  1. I need to spend more time appreciating the little things this summer- step back and take note of all the goodness. I've just been feeling like I've been taken on a whirl wind ride and haven't been able to enjoy summer much at all. You're post is helping adjust my perspective, I need that. All the pix are beautiful btw. (I'm pretty sure the majority of meltdowns have been had by me recently, poor Trapper)

    1. I wish it were hot enough to get in more water related activities, and there's been several 'I'm bored' moments from J, but I do feel less anxious than I usually do for some reason -- I'm happy to be surrounded by summer fruit. Hearing about your pie escapades have GREATLY made me want to make a few different pie flavors!

I've watched very little TV this summer (my shows aren't on!) and I've been tearing thru several YA fiction series -- finally got to read Divurgent and Insurgent - SO GOOD!!!!!

  2. Our summer so far has consisted of (in order):

    • Packing to move
    • Going to Disneyland
    • Getting violently ill at the end of our trip... yes, all of us
    • Recovering from said illness
    • Moving (just a few days after recovery)
    • Unpacking
    • Cleaning the old house
    • More unpacking

We're still unpacking and probably will be until the end of time! :) This is going to be a bit of a lost summer I think. But, the kids have been enjoying our huge new backyard and we're looking forward to relaxing when all this craziness is over! Glad you're enjoying your summer. Love those pretty sheets! :)

    3. You're right, fall will be such a welcome change for us. I'm really looking forward to slowing down after all this nuttiness. I'll definitely be posting a few photos of our new place as soon as most of the boxes are out of the way and we have a few things hung on the walls. :)

I tried to purge as much as possible before the move, but I still feel as though we have too much stuff! It's been six years since our last move and I have no plans to move again anytime soon! LOL

  3. Looks like you guys are having a fun summer! Lovely photos...love your pretty sheets! And yes, we all have meltdowns, including myself along with my toddler from time to time. And we all feel better afterwards. That's life!

    1. Thank you Julia! You know, that sheet is what's left of a sheet set my mom gave me -- the flat bottom sheet got a hole and all I have left is the top one with the embroidery. I can get a plain white sheet for it to go with but there is something about the cotton of that original set -- it's like soft crisp paper (sounds weird) that is so pleasant to sleep on!

    1. I love having J with me so much -- she tells me she loves me pretty much every other hour (the other odd hours she tells me how no one cares about her and the whole 9 yards of pity party about some formation of words that came out of my mouth that she found objectionable...:)

  6. Ahh, Melissa, the older I get the more I love summer holidays. I am so happy my two eldest are back from their trip to England. To be all together is brilliant and Friday my husband will be joining the hoiday gang! Yippee This has been such an ace week. I am a little snowed under with hare orders since opening up three days ago... It's fabulous.

I really love those pictures of peas and herbs. Glorious green.

Have a wonderful time being a mother.
