The Olympics Are Awesome!

This is the first year that my kiddo has really been aware of, or cared at all about the Olympics. She has announced her intention of becoming a super-archer (like Merida from ‘Brave’). We caught some of the men’s archery and she thought the bows were super cool. But she didn’t think they were that good, because, you know, ‘some of them didn’t hit the bulls-eye’.

The other day, she wanted to ‘play Olympics.’ We played Olympics all afternoon. I was the announcer. She was Merida, Queen Elinor, King Fergus and Wee Dingwall. Guess who won mostly? Merida.

EVENT 1: Archery

Bow

EVENT 2: Rhythmic Gymnastics

Olympics

EVENT 3: The High Jump

jumpAren’t the Olympics the greatest? We’ve watched all the main events, but also the women’s marathon, table tennis, and weightlifting. Andrew and I have had great arguments about gymnastics. He says any sport that requires makeup and music isn’t really a sport. This includes ice skating. I start squawking and stamping my feet when he starts with this. .  .

    1. she has a little medal from a gym class, it's surprisingly made out of metal of some kind -- she likes to tell everyone it's real and has been wearing it around lately...;0

  2. There's a gold medal in Julia's future for sure! When the Olympics were here in Sydney back in 2000, I was offered two complimentary tickets through work for any event of my choosing. I chose rhythmic gymnastics. It was a while before Mark forgave me for that...

  3. These pictures rock! My oldest discovered the Olympics, too. The whole house shakes when she's watching, because she won't stop cartwheeling, jumping off the furniture, and running.

Tell Andrew the day he can do a triple axel on ice is the day he can tell you figure skating isn't a sport. ;o)

    1. right????? he admires the skill but doesn't understand the makeup/music. does the makeup detract from the skill? No, I think not! silly bean.

I do adore the Russian gymnastics team for their great love of eyeshadow. The more the better with them, I've noticed over the years. Those girls are sparklelicious!! I also like all the glittery hair.
