Books & Treats for Fall

September 17, 2012

It seems like everyone is greatly enamored of the fall season, but the other day it suddenly dawned on me why I reeeeeaaaallly love it ~ there is no autumn season in Hawaii, where I grew up. There are no cool, crisp days, no changing leaves, no time change, no pumpkin patches. There just was none of that when I was a little girl. When I went away to college on the East coast, I mailed leaves to my Hawaii friends, I was so totally blown away by the piles and piles of red, yellow, and orange leaves. I'd never seen a pile of fall leaves in real life before, only in movies!

Long story short: Me = a Fan of Fall. Plus, I'm a sucker for all things pretty, and well, is there anything prettier than a maple turning colors?

I was stumped as to how I wanted to arrange this post to best show the things I love about it, and then I realized it all comes down to BOOKS & TREATS. Like it always does. Books and treats, baby!

1) 'Wild Child' by Lynn Plourde. 2) Impossible Pumpkin Pie Cupcakes. 3) 'Woody, Hazel and Little Pip' by Elsa Beskow. 4) Harvest Loaf Muffins. 5) Petite Pumpkin Spice Donuts. 6) 'Now It's Fall' by Lois Lenski. 7) Apple-Buttermilk Cupcakes with Maple Frosting. 8) 'The Apple Pie that Papa Baked' by Lauren Thompson. 9) Mom's Apple Cake. 10) 'Apples, Apples, Apples' by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace.

Enjoy the season my friends! And if you're hankering for MORE fall goodness, I have a great many additional treats and recipes and books on my Autumn Pinterest board!

  1. That apple pie book looks really nice, I might have to get it. Don't forget "Pumpkin Soup". (Sorry, I can't remember the author and would have to disturb my sleeping toddler to check, it's in his cot, but it is great!)

    1. Always best to let sleeping toddlers lie undisturbed! Like, lions and snakes, tee hee :)

Going to the library this AM, I'll look for the 'Pumpkin Soup' book, thank you Miss Lucy!

  2. I must admit that my first look at that pretty collage was entirely focused on the treats. I didn't see a single book, just donuts and cupcakes. Yummy! The books look great, too! :)

    1. Ha ha ha! In the name of fairness I must list the credits here: I took picture #1 and did the texty writing all over that photo -- oh and now I am OBSESSED WITH FONTS, I spend a lot of free time now experimenting with fonts, so fun!!!! Andrew did the collage. I am working on my Photoshop skills and being able to put together a collage in under an hour is my goal :) -- Andrew can do it in 5 minutes!

  3. I shouldn't ever read your blog before I eat breakfast. It just makes me sad that what I'll be eating can compare in NO way to the treats you showcase. Oh and the books look lovely too. I haven't read a single one! Hope my library has some of them :)

  4. AWESOME!!! The weather has been BELOW NORMAL off and on for the past week. (Crazy, after our 110 degree highs this past July!) Blackbirds are starting to gather their flocks in a way that would make Tippi Hedrin nervous. I swear I've seen some leaves starting to change. I have broken out my cardigan collection, and I am ready for pumpkin soup and apple cider, like, right now!!!

We have Pumpkin Soup and Delcious! by Helen Cooper checked out from the library. I need some apple books, though. I think I'll bring your list! We went to an apple-themed birthday party yesterday! It was lovely.

  5. Aww, what a sweet post. I just found your blog through Pozie Gets Cozy and this too gave me warm fuzzies and made me happy about the weather and being inside (with a good book and some apple dessert, in your case). Delightful blog you have. :-)

    1. Fall IS the best, it really is. Now winter? Not so much. At least not here. I'm going to be in need of much cheering and uplifting mid-way thru January...
