Cool Stuff I Like

September 28, 2012

I love this picture beyond words. I hope you don't mind me admiring my own photography. It's from last year, and I just happened upon it and oh the love! No idea what we were making there. Julia is much less keen on cooking projects these days, but she's usually still game for some mixing and of course, batter removal from a spatula or spoon. I'm super happy about the weekend! Going to see some law school friends. AND GETTIN' THE HALLOWEEN DECOR out, oh yes-a-doodle cinnamon strudel.

Super COOL (and yummy) STUFF:

Did you all have a chance to peruse the JULIA'S BOOKBAG BOOKSTORE? And didya see our Awesomely Fab Halloween Booklist?

My favorite show comes back on this weekend!

These pumpkins in a box are so delightful, but what I want to know is, do people really do this? Buy pumpkins to be delivered? I guess someone out there must or why would they offer it? I am bemused.

Would you paint your pumpkin? I WOULD! Especially this color!

Leelee Sobieski has a lot of books. Scroll thru. Did you see the giraffe? I dig her house!

Might be an all treat day! Pumpkin Doughnut Mini Muffins.

Cool Book of the Week: 'Once Upon a Time in the Kitchen' by Carol Odell and Anna Pignataro. Don't judge me friends. I totally bought this while on vacation last month. It's a cookbook! With snippets of classic Kid Lit! One page excerpts from stories like Dr. Doolittle, Winnie-the-Pooh, The Jungle Book, Wind in the Willows, to name a few. Along with easy, kid friendly recipes that are inspired by the stories, such as 'Mowgli's Meusli' and 'Neverland Baked Bananas'. I want to try nearly every single recipe!
Have a lovely weekend! Speaking of weekends, last weekend was fun ~ Julia was at a sleepover, (one of only 2 places we would let her have one at this age) and Andrew and I had a date night! We went to a bookstore! That's what we like to do with our free time, for reals. We are so wild and cray-zay! I spent the better portion of an hour in the children's section and only came home with ONE thing! That's called WILLPOWER, my friends.

  1. Why didn't I think of that pumpkin crate idea first? At $68 a pop, I could make a fortune! I was just at Trader Joe's yesterday and they had a massive pumpkin display with... wait for it... nearly every single pumpkin in that crate! LOL

And speaking of pumpkins, I love that pink one! :)

That sour cream apple pie looks divine!

And that photo of Julia, my goodness it's sweet. You need to frame it and put it up in your kitchen!

I've never in my life had sour cream apple pie ~ I'm going to make this one very soon!

  2. LOVE the picture of Julia! Too cute.

Once Upon A Time In The Kitchen looks awesome!!! I'm not sure I would feel the need to buy the pumpkins in a crate. I mean, pretty, but entirely doable myself. ;o) I'm not a big plum person, but sour cream apple pie sounds heavenly. I wouldn't mind Leelee Sobieski's library.

    1. Maybe I'll put some mini pumpkins in a crate (all of which I'm sure I can get for $10) and pretend that it came from Terrain! I adore Terrain, it reminds me of Anthropologie, homegoods-style -- but I sigh at the pricing sometimes...

  3. mmmmmmmmmmm apple pie, I want a big slice. I would make that pie this weekend but it's Dax's birthday and I'm going to be making cake. I'm pretty sure I won't get around to making both! Maybe pie next week :)

Have you made anything from the kids cookbook? I love books like that!

    1. Melissa, I hope you don't mind me hijacking the comments for a moment... :) But as a cake fanatic I must know... what kind of cake are you making Robyn?

    2. I think pie next week will be on my agenda as well b/c our wkend is looking pretty full right now ~ I have not tried out the recipes yet simply because the book has been sitting right next to my computer for the past couple weeks, reminding me to write about it :) -- There's a gingery chicken recipe that I think will be the first thing I try!

  6. Once upon a time in the kitchen looks fabulous. My two favourite types of book rolled into one! You made me laugh when you mentioned that you and your husband went to a bookshop for a date night! That is exactly what my Hubby and I do when we have a moment alone without the kids, and I still seem to spend more time in the children's section than any other.
