Making Pizza

September 25, 2012

(Guess what! I wrote a post LAST SPRING and forgot to run it! So here it is now! Also, I messed up the scheduling the other day and set it to publish...IN JULY (as in July of this past summer), so if that threw any of you off last week, many apologies and this post obviously wants to time travel or wants to never be posted or I don't know what...)

Julia loves her pizza. And she loves to make pizza. No jokey, she can roll out the pizza dough better than I can. She was so proud of herself the first time she assembled (most of it) herself. We usually get our pizza dough from Trader Joe's, but when there's no time (or I've wasted too much time), I go for naan breads, which is a pizza-making tip I got from my BFF Nigella.

Sometimes I like to pretend that Nigella is my glamorous, beautiful older sister. Sometimes I like to pretend she's my besty and we're going to someday have a grand time playing board games, watching movies and chatting about what's the best kind of bread pudding. (Her ginger-jam bread pudding OF COURSE.) And then we'll giggle and paint each other's toes. Please don't tell me to stop with this fantasy. My life will be a colorless place without this dream.)

Julia thinks that I actually KNOW Nigella, since I talk about her so much. She was really surprised to discover that I am not, in fact, best buddies with Nigella. I'm really surprised about it too!

Back to pizza! Um, I don't have anything else to say. Pizza is awesome? I just realized I might love Nigella more than Hello Kitty and I'm not sure how to process all of that. Also, my aunty made Julia the little apron she's wearing and isn't she just so cute in it???

(Also, just noticed that most of these pix have a big ol' brandy bottle in them. No, we don't let Julia take swigs while she cooks. That's just for Mommy and  Daddy. Ok, we don't do that either. Really. Andrew was fighting a cold and had made a hot toddy the night before...and once something makes its way to the kitchen counter, there it stays for at least a week...)

  1. I love the brandy bottle comment. LOL

We love homemade pizza around here. I have a great (and easy) dough recipe if you ever want to try your hand at making your own. :)

    2. Would you like me to post it here? Or I could wait a week and do a recipe post on ye ole blog. Which would you prefer (I don't care either way, I just like sharing recipes).

It's funny that you did a pizza post today, because I made pizza tonight. And Miss C. burst into tears when I told her what was for dinner. Oh, the drama! What kind of kid doesn't like pizza? My kid, that's who. ;)

    3. Guess what is also weird?? WE MADE PIZZA FOR DINNER TONIGHT TOO!!! (not the same one as here, hee) Cosmic!!!!

For the longest time, J hated spaghetti. Who hates spaghetti??

Either way with the recipe! Save it for a post, I say!

    4. You made pizza tonight too??? That's awesome! We had a veggie pizza (I made a tiny cheese and garlic pizza for Miss C.). Some nights we make taco pizza, which my kids love. It's a very strange sounding pizza, but super yummy!

I swear, you and I must lead parallel lives. Miss C. hates spaghetti!!!! And, if I am to be completely truthful... I hated it when I was a girl too. Weird! There must be a genetic component to pickiness, because she has the same extreme dislike for all of the same things I hated as a kid: potatoes, egg dishes, anything pasta (she does like mac-n-cheese, though, which I couldn't stand), soups, spaghetti. She is much pickier than I was though... she also can't stand meat in almost every form (salami is perhaps her one exception) and pizza.

I will most definitely do a post on the pizza dough recipe... it's so easy!

  2. I love Nigella, too. But I might be afraid to be best friends with her, because my husband LOVES her, too. Especially at the end of one the TV episodes when she always sneaks down to her kitchen her robe for a late night snack?

    Love the apron!!!

    4. So I was an English major and went to law school and all that roo-rah, and I double check my posts and they STILL get the most insane typos in them!

    1. Let's all try it! Jacques Pepin does it, and Julia Child did it (I think), so that means it's ok! :)
