There’s a decidedly warmish, burnt sienna & coral, glowy sheen to the world around us lately – signs of the on-fire hues of autumn that I know are coming soon. Did you SEE THAT PEACH? It was as big as a softball and sweet and juicy and the skin peeled off really well and hardly ever do ALL of those things happen for me with the same peach!

This is the time that the weather here really shines – the best weather of the year is right now. Shocks me to my shoes to say, but I can’t complain about the weather we’ve had this summer. (Mark your calendars as this is a celestial and Very Rare Event – surely stars and planets and fairies and superheroes all had to align for this to occur, because as some of you know, I’ve made Weather Complaining into a competitive sport.)

We got the kiddo's school box packed and ready to go. What the hey is a school box? My pencil box buying hopes were dashed and smashed into smithereens because what the kids are supposed to bring was this SCHOOL BOX dealy-bob. Meh. I do like all the compartments though. Do you like how I personalize my kid’s school supplies? I live for school supplies, you should have seen me in Staples, investigating every last row and aisle for fear I’d miss the one thing I know would Perfectly Organize my life forever.

I didn’t find it. And therefore my life will never be perfectly organized.

Oh and the Littlest Pet Shop explosion you see above on the carpet is courtesy of a very kind neighbor girl who was purging her closet and gifted Julia with some of her old stuff. Basically J won the Littlest Pet Shop lottery! What's there on the carpet isn't half of what we she got!

And we managed to grow 2 dahlias! And those little baby tomatoes! Friends, we are living in exciting times.

  1. But even if you are never perfectly organized at least you have that beautiful cup of tea to comfort you.

    1. That's what I was thinking :) -- I wish I owned that cute little cup (it actually has hot chocolate in it!), it's from a tea shop that we went to with J's grandma!

  2. Very cute school box! I totally understand your excitement! School supplies obsession FTW :) I wished I had a great summer like you did. I complain way too much about weather too. Only happy in autumn which has the perfect weather! I noticed Miss J. has a little freckle on the cheek just like me :D

    1. Hurray for little cheek freckles! love them! The past 2 summers have been cold and grey and atrocious -- this one was a vast improvement, for which I am most grateful :)

  3. I loved school supply shopping this year. But most of it ends up in the teacher's supply closet, to be used by all. Only a few items actually bear her name. It's weird. I remember writing my name on EVERYTHING when I was little.

I love these cheerful pictures! We have been enjoying some truly fall-like weather here. It was only 58 degrees this morning! It will eventually hit 90 today, but that should be the end of it for the week. :o)

    1. Yes, that's how it is with us as well, most of it is communal -- me too, I remember writing my name everywhere, on everything!

later this week I think high 70's are going to be the norm -- a couple days ago it was almost 80 and downright warm -- I'm so happy summer isn't quite done with us yet...

  4. I loved shopping for school supplies for the first time this year. Miss C. wanted everything to be pink, so everything that was destined to be hers (not the communal stuff) ended up some shade of pink :)

    1. Indeed, I do believe that in a perfect world, all supplies of every variety should be pink! ;)

    1. My aunt-in-law planted dahlias for us this yr! I've never had them before and we didn't take great care of them and the slugs got to a whole bunch :(

Sadly, the raspberries were not optimal for us this yr -- some summers they taste almost like candy -- it was a good peach yr though!

  6. Wow!! That is the largest peach I have ever seen! And I am with you on "weather complaining" I have complained all summer about our extremely hot weather and yucky humidity!!

    1. It's not too humid in the Pacific NW, which is nice! When it's nice here, it really is just wonderful! When it's not nice...it's just blah and cold and grey and generally icky -- about 8 months out of the year! :(

  7. Lovely photos, Melissa. And yes, this summer has been fantastic but I can feel the chill in the air. Fall is coming!
