Mornings. Different mornings on some recent weekends. (During the school week, there are no pumpkin doughnuts, no tripping merrily through the early A.M. sunbeams with the camera, let me assure you.)

But morning light IS magical. It's a shame I'm not more of a morning person, because it really is a beautiful time. I so rarely get out to appreciate it. But since the light is changing at this time of year, it's made me appreciate the morning rays falling on:

...shadows of me (that's the only way you will ever see me photographed first thing in the morning, despite Andrew's assertions to start a website called 'Melissa-in-the-Morning.com'),

blankies and squishy toys,

PUMPKIN DOUGHNUTS (which I did not make), tea steam....

and Miss Rosebud with her little kitten face and huge anime eyes, even though she is not remotely a kitten anymore (and the vet has told us that she is not remotely the size of a kitten, or even a normal adult cat...).

Soon it will just be all DARK in the morning and the only pics you will see at this time of day will be a lump in my bed. That's going to be me, hiding and refusing to get out!

  1. Beautiful photos, Melissa. I love weekend mornings, too, but have never been able to capture them in a photograph like you have.

And pumpkin donuts! I'd give my left arm for a donut right now... mmmm...

    1. You know what's funny? I just happened to have had my camera on my nightstand and Julia came in and stood in the door playing with a toy for minute. Otherwise I'd never have been able to get that shot b/c she is not one for standing still for very long....

  2. Beautiful! I don't think I've ever even thought of photographing the morning around here... I'm pretty sure our mornings are never as lovely as the pix you've captured here! And Rosebud does have anime eyes!

    1. Rosebud makes us laugh all the time, with her little head and not-so-little kitty tummy ~ she will forever have this kitten looking face, I think due to her enormous eyes!!

  3. Lovely! I hate mornings. This reminded me that they certainly don't need to be as awful as my mind makes them out to be, though. Pumpkin donuts are awesome, that cat is beautiful, and the picture of the tea steam is my favorite.

    1. The steam pic is my favorite too! I love vapor. Fog, steam, mist. :)

And even with pretty light, I still hate mornings ;)

  4. I love your photos Melissa! They are just beautiful! LOL at Andrew's sense of humor!

Those pumpkin donuts look so yummy. You are making me drool and I am stuck at the office without donuts!

I am not a morning person either but made to be because of my work and child of course... (don't all mothers become morning persons despite themselves LOL) and you are spot on about the morning light.

    1. Thank you so much!!! There are no more doughnuts here anymore either :) Andrew's humor often is helpful in the AM when I am at my most crabby...

  5. Hey Melissa, this is such a sweet post (as always). Since my little third was born I have started going to bed much later than before which makes getting up early, um, challenging. Sundays now, when the weather is kind to us, I get up earlish (that's the best it's going to get) and go cycling with my son. I feel fabulous the rest of the day! I get to spend time alone with him, do some exercise (and feel very smug for at least two days) AND stop off at the boulangerie and buy cakes for BREAKFAST! OH! I almost forgot the morning light; yes, I really enjoy that too!

    Have a fab week Melissa!

    1. Oh Stephanie that sounds so fun! I'm excited for the day Julia can ride a bike with us -- she is making the attempt at mastering her bike without training wheels, but it's slow going...:)

    1. Thank you Michaele! I was just telling a friend on Facebook how this shot was a bit of a happy accident and how fascinated I am with her fingers in this pic -- they look lit from within :)

  7. Lovely photos! I am totally NOT a morning person either! I am really quite horrible in the mornings. My husband knows to not speak to me for about the first hour. Ha! The doughnuts look so yummy and with a hot cup of tea...perfect! And you cat is so funny and cute!

    1. Oof, mornings are hard. Before I had a kiddo, I pretty much just would quietly get ready for work and really not speak much at all for that first hour! And now I'm expected to be all chatty and happy right from the get-go! Hard, I tell you! ;)
