Cool Stuff I Like

Is anyone else having the urge to spring clean in winter? I am, big time. I cleaned my floors the other day and I couldn't remember the last time I had mopped them. Doesn't that make my house sound really hygienic? I've made a huge list of stuff to clean and donate and clear out. My goal is to own maybe two boxes of things by the time I'm 80. I've heard too many horror stories about people passing away and then their relatives have to dig through piles and piles and piles of belongings, and I'm determined to not end up like that. I want to reduce my footprint. I could never, ever, ever, watch that show 'Hoarders' because I think it would make me throw out everything I own, and that might be a tad extreme! Happy thoughts for your Friday, yes?

COOL STUFF, my hobbledy hoys! (sorry. using this expression might be a problem for me for awhile.)

Yes, yes Christmas is very much over, but I'm not sure how I missed this spot o' lovely.

Grandma's Brownies. (not my grandma, someone else's grandma.)

Lisa Evans is my new art crush!

Pretty sure this is the cutest baby in the whole world. Also I want that cake.

The best Downton Abbey recap in the known universe. I only talk in superlatives now.

Cool Book of the Week: 'Lemonade in Winter' by Emily Jenkins and G. Brian Karas. This was a fun library find. What do bored children do in winter? Sell cold drinks of course! And it's really clever, the way the book interweaves counting lessons involving money into the story. Did you know that 3 lemonades go for six quarters, which is a dollar fifty? That's useful information...FOR ME. My child knows more math than I do, sadly. The art is adorable and at the end of the story is a page detailing various money conversions and equivalents.

Have a lovely weekend! Really hoping to see 'The Hobbit' this weekend. We'll see if I can tear myself away from deep clean mode.....

  1. Something about this time of year always makes me want to simplify too. There's something about the influx of so many things during December that makes me feel like cleaning and simplifying and January. I have several boxes already.

Ooooo I feel ya on the old people and piles. I love estate sales and those are usually older people who have to hire companies to come clean and sell all their stuff. I am SO not like that either.

That Posie Get Cozy is what adorable blog!

I can't wait for that Vettre bedside table!

  4. Oh, I've heard about Lemonade in Winter before! Big Sis has learned much about counting money in school, but it wouldn't hurt to have a good primer. (And the little one could learn, too!) I used to make a great homemade chai, but it's been years. WOW on that igloo!!! I'm starting to miss pretty Christmas stuff, so thanks. Lisa Evans's art - how lovely! I've been craving brownies lately... I so wish there was an IKEA in this town! I love Posie Gets Cozy, but I'm loving her even more with the baby. Almost makes me want to have another one just to dress her in handknits and vintage floral prints. Sigh. And yes, the MFAMB recap was hilarious. I need to get my husband to read it. (He really does love Downton, too!)

    1. Oh man, I'm telling you, that BABY -- her little hats! her booties! and what they went through to have her in their lives.....oh she's a special blessing for them, it brings tears to me eyes everytime, just thinking about it. She's an angel baby!

Andrew reads the MFAMB recaps too and laughs, and he never laughs at anything usually, besides his own jokeys, ha.

  5. I intend to have the most rockin' estate sale ever, so I can't clear out too much! I do need to go through the bedroom and reorganize everything. Mostly I just wear whatever is thrown on the back of the chair because who knows where anything is.

OMG there's a Laura Ashley blog! How sad that there aren't Laura Ashley stores here any more. I used to love to go pick out my Easter dress there.

    1. I was like this about Laura Ashley blog: OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to worship Laura Ashley clothes/store/everything like you wouldn't believe. It was a tad crazy.

You would have a great estate sale! I would have.....a bunch of weird crap no one would want. Although my friend was amazed one yr when we had a garage sale, my old lady flower art prints and PINK fiestaware dishes went SOFAST.

  6. Oh wow that baby is so pretty and cute and snuggable!

I can't watch Hoarders either because I feel so sad for them! I tend to keep everything too but lack of space forces me to throw them away. I guess I should feel thankful to live in a small place LOL

I hope you can go see the Hobbit as well. I was supposed to go with my brother (who is the only person I know who wants to see that movie) but he went without me! *tears*

Anyway have a great weekend and happy cleaning :)

  8. I've had such the urge to get a jump on spring cleaning. I love a good purge-and-rearrange session. And yes - Hoarders. Seriously. I did want to throw out everything I owned after I watched it. Throw it out and bleach the entire house, ha.

  9. I also like to spring clean in winter- we should come up with a new name for it! I don't want to stay inside and clean when it's nice outside- I do indoor projects now and in the summer. The book looks really cute- my oldest has been learning about money lately and responds well to "sneaky" learning, so that book will fit he bill nicely.

  10. Send some of your cleaning vibes and energy to me... please. I need help in that area. SO that rainbow igloo is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life. Maybe one of my children will grow up to be an engineer and make one for me. ;) And that baby is mighty precious! oh wow! Have fun at the Hobbit! We loved it!

  11. Oh, I thought I was the only one who wants to end up with two boxes of stuff when I'm 80! Well, maybe three. Every week, I determine to get rid of something else. Someday I'll move from this house I've lived in for 30 years already. I'm NOT taking all that stuff with me, or crying over having to get rid of it when the time comes!
