That tree full o' frost? PRETTY SURE THAT FAIRIES LIVE THERE.

Since the fall, Andrew and I have recommitted ourselves to exercise and we've been taking a great many walks. And they all came to a grinding halt over the holidays when a certain little girl was home from school. But a few days ago, she was back in school, it was sunny, which means there was no rain and despite the fact that it was 26 degrees ~ we went walking! I didn't get that much actual exercise on the first day, because I was stopping for pix every five minutes.

I've decided that even though my hair and skin hate hate hate winter, I don't loathe it as much as I used to. Seasons are kind of interesting, I've decided. While I think I could totally handle the 24/7 of amazing weather I used to take for granted in Hawaii, I do really like autumn leaves, cherry blossoms in the spring, hot summers and the frost in winter. That's fun. Andrew says he would hate to live someplace where there were no true seasonal changes. (I don't know...even though Hawaii only has one season, that season is AWESOME.)

I hope you enjoy the very cool lens flare that managed to pop up in several photos. Both Andrew and I greatly appreciate a good lens flare. It looks like space aliens have landed in the photo. He's pointed out that director J.J. Abrams is the King of Lens Flare. It's true. Go back and watch his version of 'Star Trek'. The man clearly never met a lens flare that he didn't like.

What else....oh HOW DID YOU ALL LIKE DOWNTON ABBEY??

Guess what. I have a special 'Downton Abbey' surprise to show you. Have a change of pants handy. Just in case. It's that exciting! Later this week, I promise....

  3. LOVE the frost pictures! I love winter. It's my favorite. My body doesn't like it as much as it did 10 years ago, though, I'll admit that. Mad that our antenna won't pick up our PBS station. Lucky for me, if we can't buy a new antenna to prop way, way up on our roof, we can get the Downton Abbey season 3 DVD at the end of January. That's what I had to do for season 2. (As much as I want to see it, squeezing in at my desktop with the hubby to watch on pbs.org together doesn't sound like fun.) Or maybe he'll get the cables to hook the computer up to the TV...

I am looking forward to more walking myself when a certain someone goes back to school (Tomorrow! Thank God!) there is something so simple and invigorating about it. Love leashing up the pups and heading out.
You've captured such frosty beauty with your photos. ENjoy the winter and the stillness it brings! The daffodils will be here before you know it!

  5. I'm so glad you've captured the beauty of winter for me here- cause we got plenty of winter going on but I'm afraid I haven't been seeing the beauty because it's been hard for me to get past the COLD! It's been SO SO SO bitter here! I just want nice winter, not killer freezing winter... things are supposed to get slightly warmer. I hope so. Despite all that, I do like the changes that seasons bring.

I've got Downton recorded and ready to watch :)

  7. I love these photos, Melissa, especially the seed pod. I'm with silly eagle books - you should consider selling some of these shots!

Winter is one of my favorite seasons, mostly because of the fog and overcast days. No sun! ;) Today is crisp and cloudy, just the way I like it.

    1. I really liked the seed pod one too Michelle! I haven't had a giveaway in a long long time largely because I've had nothing to give away. I'm thinking I might do a test print to see how it blows up, and then host a giveaway of one of my pix. Maybe if I amass enough decent material, someday I might open a little Etsy shop or something. THANK YOU for the encouragement, it means the world to me!

      Oooh fog! I LOVE fog!!

    2. That's a wonderful idea! I'd enter to win one for sure!! :)

Oh, and don't hate me for this... but I've never seen Downton Abbey and up until I read Danzel's comment above I had no idea it aired on PBS. I just assumed since it was so popular and looked so gorgeous that it was on HBO or something (which we don't get). It's time for me to crawl out from under my rock and rent the first season. Sheesh!

  8. Very true about J.J. Abrams. Nerd husband and I can't wait for the next Star Trek. Benedict Cumberbatch! :-)

Your photos look fabulous. I'm pretty sure there have to be fairies out there playing (or hiding or whatever it is fairies do).
