I am a little giraffe.

I've been waiting to spring this cutie pie on you for quite some time, but little things like Christmas and birthdays and winter and 'Downton Abbey' treacle tarts all scrambled in front of this sweet, beautiful book.

One of the reasons I've backed off to only highlighting 2 or 3 books a week is because I want to WOW you.

I want to show you only the Very Coolest Stuff.

Also I have such a lot of random musings on TV and recipes and my cats that I must share because it's such RIVETING material. So you know, there's that. I have to save blog time for these very important topics.

So I want you to really hear me when I say that a book I'm showing is neato mosquito. I saw 'I am a little giraffe." by Francois Crozat from across an entire store and began "OMG-ing" before I had even reached the book.

This book TOTALLY rises to gift status. In fact, I did indeed give it as a gift, to my baby nephew! I gave it as a Christmas present, that's how gorgeous this thing is.

And it's BIG. Nearly 15 inches tall, I'm guessing.

The cover is cloth bound. Or some kind of cloth-like material.

It's so vivid! So bright! It's one of the most beautiful board books for babies and toddlers I've ever seen. And let me tell you, it was AGONIZING to choose between the giraffe book and the baby elephant book.

Would you be like to know that there is also a BABY PANDA, MONKEY, and DINOSAUR book? Yeah you do! (the dinosaur is big, not little.)

The format of the story is day-in-the-life style, written from the perspective of the young animal. Julia would have adored these books when she was a tiny tot. She loved animal books the best when she was younger, and the more information she could get from a book about any given animal, the better. She much preferred fact books about animals to nearly any other kind of book.

That saying about bigger is not always better? Bigger is definitely better here! You gotta, gotta, gotta see this book in person for it to really register upon you. I put this one in the Julia's Bookbag Bookshop. And you can check out the entire line up of "I am a little" animal books HERE. (aaaaagh!! there's a hedgehog book!)

  2. Reminds me of the "I am a Bunny" and "I am a Kitten" sturdy Golden Books. I could see my boys liking these when they were little.

(Okay did you squeal over the hedgehog book because you're a Martin Freeman/Sherlock fan? The writing is excellent and of course, it's set in London!)

  6. These books look fantastic! I must find them... *hands on hips, searching around.

By the way, we're in Maui (on Maui?) and went to the lavender farm yesterday- best. day. ever. The treasure hunt was a hit with the kids, and my husband and mother-in-law, grumbling the whole drive, totally turned around when we got there and thought I was the coolest ever for suggesting it. Thanks for the recommendation!
