Cool Book of the Week: 'This is Ireland' by M. Sasek. Have you read any of the Sasek travel books for kids? I've flipped through many of these for-kiddo travelogues over the years, but it's only now that I think Julia would actually appreciate them. There's real facts, and real history discussed. Julia's always liked non-fiction informational texts, and the colorful art in all of the Sasek books makes learning about what could be dry material for little kids into something accessible and fun.

we love our Flahavans too, although our packaging isnt so nice. I was just looking at your t.v. stuff in the last post - can you get the kids series Jakers? It's very St Patricks Day appropriate.
ReplyDeleteOh Lucy I've never heard of that show! i'll have to explore around and see if it's available. Happy St. Paddys to you!
DeleteJakers! is awesome. It used to be on PBS and Sprout, but it's completely gone from the website. Alas, it doesn't stream anywhere. There are DVDs, which we started buying when Jakers! went off the air. (It was Big Sis's favorite show to watch with her daddy when she was very, very little.)
DeleteThats a pity, Jakers isn't on Irish tv anymore either. Btw Melissa, well done to Andrew on the soda bread, from an 100% irish person, he did a good job! There is no set recipe for it, every family has a different one, some without butter, some brown floury, some white. All yummy straight from the oven.
DeleteThank you Miss Lucy!!! I'll be sure and pass that on. We were all very proud of his effort and so pleased with the result! xo
DeleteI'm eating oatmeal for breakfast as a I read this... I've never seen this brand before. I'm a sucker for good packaging too... I'm going to have to find it so I can give it a go! And those hand pies! Must. Make. Hand pies. NOW!
ReplyDeletewe're going to abandon our usual corned beef and cabbage this year and make these hand pies instead! i'm excited! xoxoxo
DeleteI would love to get my hands on those Sasek books...
ReplyDeletei'm trying to decide which cities to get ~ i'd like to have few of these, so Julia can learn about some cities of the world...:)
DeleteI have the this is New York book... I've wanted to find more of them though... they are very cool. Those pies look heavenly. And that fish stick sandwich!!! Why am I always drawn to the food??? I could go for some cool robots too.
ReplyDeletei gotta tell you, i don' know why the brilliance of a fish stick sandwich has never ever occurred to me before, but doesn't that just sound delicious? we've been very into fish and fish sticks lately around here.
Deletei'm always drawn to the food too :)
I love the Sasek books. I've never seen that one, though! I need to try Flahavans. McCann's is my usual oatmeal. I've been eating it with brown sugar and blackberries this week. I was just discussing soft boiled eggs with Mr. B. I want to get some awesome egg cups and try it with the girls. Little Sis loves poached eggs, so I thought she might enjoy soft-boiled. That Easter party is gorgeous. The Sunnyside Up Pies look rather tasty. Love the robot family! I think I need to follow Aunt Peaches. And I plan to break out The Sun Egg soon!
ReplyDeleteAunt Peaches is the coolest and she also does projects for Elizabeth Banks.com (as in the actress, she has a very fun blog!). You kiddo EATS EGSS?? so lucky. xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteI am totally obsessed with egg cups because I love eggs and soldiers :D
ReplyDeleteThat Easter Party looks so idyllic... nothing resembling the mad chase that happens at each egg hunt I witness! But of course it wasn't organized by me ... still, I doubt the boys could have such a tranquill egg hunt ever. They'll probably whip out their Nerf guns and start shooting their rivals! I obviously need more girls in my household!
ha ha! i've never seen an idyllic Easter egg hunt either. Mad frenzy is more like it. :)
DeleteMy dad has flahavans for breakfast every day, he loves it! X
ReplyDeleteha ha that's so great Hamilton! My step dad, he eats oatmeal for breakfast every day of his life as well, with blueberries. :)
DeleteOMG I love that book cover.
ReplyDeleteThat cookbook is also gorgeous! I tell ya, I love that Anthropologie. They just "get" me. :)
