Cool Stuff I Like

Ok let's discuss what we love most about Bunny Hello Kitty. Her little floppy bunny ears? Her bows? Her LITTLE BUNNY SHOES???????  It's totally the little bunny shoes. Is this not the cutest? Julia is going to be peeved at me for not putting this pic on Pink Sparkle Fun. You ready for Easter? I'm ready for Easter. TO BE OVER. I managed to not get a million pounds of candy for Easter this year, but you know what? I'm kinda over holidays right now. I'm ready to be all done. Unless it's an obscure holiday like St. George's Day or the Dragon Boat Festival. I'd be down with celebrating those I think.

COOL STUFF I'm happy to celebrate....

Things on Toast.

Beautiful Swedish blog.

Saw this on Design Mom. Hair chalk! Made by a Melissa from Hawaii! Cool.

Orange and Ginger Teacake.

Friends with Google Readers! Don't use them anymore 'cuz they are going away. Read this for advice on Feedly.  And this for info on Bloglovin'.

A Pinterest board devotedly solely to the hotness/not hotness of James Franco. (my vote: Not Hot)

Spring Risotto.

Are we watching Mr. Selfridge??? We are aren't we?? Let's discuss next week.

Russian Fairy Tales.

Lemon Curd Layer Cake!

Beautiful Japan pictures.

Cool Book of the Week: Ok this is going to sound VERY confusing. Bear with me. We haven't yet read 'E. Aster Bunnymund and the Warrior Eggs at the Earth's Core!' by William Joyce. What we ARE in the middle of reading is 'Toothiana, Queen of the Tooth Fairy Armies' by the same author. Which is BOOK THREE of the 'Rise of the Guardians' chapter book series. Julia saw it with her grammy at the bookstore and would not be deterred. Miss J thought it was the first book.

So we're reading the LAST book in the series, (they do a good job of catching you up to speed, but we're still a bit lost on the backstory of certain characters) and I'm showing you the SECOND book in the series because it's about a bunny and it's Easter. If you want to do this properly, start with the FIRST book in the series, which is 'Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King'. GOT ALL THAT? (we're loving the 'Toothiana' book, even though we really have no clue what's going on. DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME KIDS!)

Incredible art, short chapters, engaging story about beloved holiday heroes (they're heroes!) saving the world from nightmare-inducing bad guys, and Julia's WAY into it so far. I have to explain a lot of words to her. Great to read to your 7 year old (an older 6 might like it too), and awesome for 8-11 yrs olds to read on their own.

Have a lovely weekend! By the way, what's your Easter treat of choice? Jelly bean, chocolate or marshmallow? (jelly bean)

~Melissa

  4. Oh, dear. I can't imagine reading those books out of order. Waiting a full year to try to read the Easter Bunny book after reading St. Nicholas had me all sorts of confused and I never finished it. I need to start over, able to jump to each book. (I think I like the picture books better. More William Joyce art!)

I want to snuggle that Hello Kitty!!! The only Easter candy my girls are getting from us, er the Easter bunny are little bags of Hello Kitty Jelly Bellies. Of course, they just received two huge baskets of candy from the uncles in D.C... I think I want to go to England for St. George's Day. Sigh - so many places to go! I've seen that James Franco board before. It's a scream. Love, love, love Russian fairy tales. I wanted that hair chalk the second I saw it.

Have a Happy Easter, dear friend! xxxxxooooo

  6. Just wanted to give Julia a big hoorah for not begging(or even asking) to get something she wanted. I had wanted to give her an Easter gift anyway and she was so obviously entranced with the book that I knew it would be perfect. As she was replacing it on the shelf, I asked if she would like it, and we know the answer. What a sweet girl.

  8. Have I ever told you how much I love your photoshopping of text!!! (If that is what it is, I don't even know.) Ever since the moonlight tea post-- am I calling it the right thing-- I have been meaning to tell you how much I love it! You always do such cute clever things with it!!!

I think lemon curd layer cake looks lovely! Sadly I'm kind of boycotting layer cakes after Cuteness' birthday cake turned out totally lame. And the Japan pics? AWESOME!!!

Also, because I'm me and I just can't stop typing, I love how the risotto is shown on a wrinkled paper napkin! Do you think they look at the post now and think, 'oh man-- that napkin is all rumply! I should really take a new pic.' (Because I have issues with pics-- I never like how mine come out. Everyone's else's of course seem flawless to me, even the rumple napkin risotto.)

Oh my randomness, I apologize! Don't worry, if history repeats itself I'll go under a rock for quite some time again soon!

    1. I love that you love my Friday picture posts! They're my favorites. I love doing them!! I do some in Photoshop, depending on what font I want to use, and I also use Picmonkey, although I'm getting bored with their fonts :). My new obsession is downloading free fonts into Photoshop!

I never noticed that napkin!!! Now I'm gonna check!!!

I always, always, ALWAYS look forward to your comments Miss Whitney and MISS YOU when I don't hear from you in awhile! :)
