Cool Stuff I Like

See this cute mushroom thingy? It's actually a card that my sis-in-law Amy sent to Julia for her seven year old birthday last month. The whole front is felted! And stitched! It has glittery sequins! We have it hanging in our kitchen right now, it's the cutest card EVER. You can find it right here.

OH MARCH. Even though the weather really hasn't improved in any substantial way since February, I just feel flooded with relief that in a couple of weeks, winter will be DONE. I'm ready for cherry blossoms. In Very Important Television Watching news, Andrew and I moved directly from 'Downton' into 'House of Cards' on Netflix. It was amazing. We basically stopped watching anything else until we were done with that show. And all the episodes are available, so there's no waiting! That was awesome. Oh and here's some info on 'Downton' casting for Season 4.

COOL STUFF that made me happy this week:

Vanilla Bean and Lemon Pudding.

This blog has tons and tons and tons of kid room decor!

Remember 'Last Night I Swam with a Mermaid' ? Now there are prints!

Ukranian Egg Decorating Kit.

THIS is such a great idea!

Little House of Stamps.

A friend has one of these blankets for her daughter. Beautiful.

I am officially charmed by this darling girl! And I'll be making her mac 'n cheese asap.

Hedgehog lip gloss! Julia would adore.

Love these little nightlights.

Cool Book of the Week: 'Irish Folk Tales' by Henry Glassie. This is a bit of a different pick for you this week. I've had this in my collection since my college days. First off, it's NOT a kid book. Maybe kids 10 to 11-and-up could make sense of it. It's a collection of Irish tales and short stories that are categorized by Faith, Old Stories, Wit, Poets, Tall Tales, Outwitting the Devil (I want to read those), Mystery, Ghosts, Encounters with Fairies (I want to read those), Enchanted Nature, Illness and Witchcraft, Ancient Days, and Fireside Tales. Some stories are only a page long, some are 10 pages long. If you're looking to sit down with some tea and a blanky, read about some BANSHEES and GET YOUR IRISH ON, this is your book.

Have a lovely weekend! If you sitting there going, well darn you Melissa, I didn't want this book, I wanted a kid book for St. Paddy's Day thankyouverymuch, then here you go ~ just picked up 'Fiona's Luck' from the library, in which a little girl outsmarts the Leprechaun King. And we also picked up 'Too Many Leprechauns' by Stephen Krensky, which is about how the pot of gold got to the end of the rainbow. Really fun art in that one!

    1. apparently you don't get to choose which nightlight you get, they send it as a surprise. it would be so fun to have a bunch of them glowing around!

  3. Fiona's Luck is our favorite St. Paddy's Day read around here. I had to buy it, and we used it for a bookstore storytime a few years ago.

Oooo, another decorating blog to swoon over! Love the Ukrainian egg deco kit. The hedgie lip gloss cracks me up! My oldest would love that, too. And why yes, I'd love a hedgie night light, too. I'm bookmarking that macaroni recipe to make later. I really do still mean to do a whole post on mac and cheese. In fact, when I have a little time today, I may make a Pinboard just for macaroni and cheese recipes. When I have time.

  5. I am sold on the hedgehog lipgloss becaute is has two of my favorites things combined in one item!

I had to laugh at the Ukranian Egg Decorating Kit because it looks great but with my formidable skilled hands (insert ironic tone), I would probably make them eggs look fit for a Haloween party.

I drooled a lot at the kid's room decor!

    1. My aunt-in-law makes them all hand done and blows out the eggs and can do these amazing eggs without using a kit! When Julia gets old enough, we're gonna make some with her.

That hedgie lipgloss is just the cutest! Happy weekend to you :)

  7. I have a thing for Papyrus cards, and I had no idea you could buy their cards online. What a find! I think I could almost decorate my house with their cards. Have you read Small Beauties: The Journey of Darcy Heart O'Hara? It's one of my all-time favorites.
