Cool Stuff I Like

Aaaaand, here's another cherry blossom picture. After this week, I'm letting it go. This was a white-hued lovely that lives in the entrance to our neighborhood. Oh ~ you can come visit next Monday and Tuesday, but I won't be here. I'm taking a blogging break! For 2 whole days! I never take blogging breaks! I think it will be very good for me, and plus we'll have just come back from our spring break trip to California. So I'll catch up with you all in the middle of next week. But before I go, let's take a peeky at what I took a gander at on the internets recently 'cuz that's always fascinating....

COOL STUFF this week:

MORE cherry blossoms in Japan! (are we all sick of cherry blossoms yet?)

Window gardening tips.

Love these tote bags.

A new live-action 'Cinderella' film!

How to make your home cozy.

Lyra Face Crayons.

Do you want to see a LOT of straws?

Flower Fairies Paper Dolls.

Orange Cake.

New post on Pink Sparkle Fun ~ just discovered children's illustrator Ishtar Olivera. Oh my!

I CRIED WITH LAUGHTER. (thank you Andrew ~ my fav is the butter on the rice.)

Cool Book(s) of the Week: It can be really super hard to find the books of Sibylle von Olfers. My library doesn't have them. Boo. I've been wanting 'The Story of the Butterfly Children' for two years now, and I finally broke down and bought it, so that I can read it with Julia before she ages out of this type of picture book. I've talked about Sibylle's art before, HERE, and also HERE. Books like this just aren't made any more. Fairies, wood elves, nature magic, the wonder of the seasons...Sibylle's books are magical worlds unto themselves. You can locate them on Amazon, and also at Magic Cabin, where all four of these beauties can be found!

Have a lovely weekend! Is it really and truly Spring in your part of the world yet?

~Melissa

  1. It is still not really and truly spring here. Yesterday and today we have had a ton of freezing rain and so my daughter's school actually got cancelled. They have had a lot of snow/ice days this year! I guess we're getting payback for last year , which was the easiest winter ever.

    1. Wow! I hope summer is fabulous, given the lackluster spring we've been having so far....:)

  2. We've had a set of those Lyra face crayons for years. We use them at Halloween, and on random days to write our names backwards across our foreheads and draw swords on little brother's face.

  3. Ah, love the cherry blossoms! I'm gonna have to go track down a cherry tree. I need some cherry blossoms in my life! (on a side note, Audrey and I dragged a peach tree home the other day...and then it got so cold so I currently have a peach tree in my kitchen! lol!)
Have a GREAT trip! I'm sure you'll come back super inspired and ready to blog!

  5. We've only read The Story of the Root Children so far. It's the only one our library had. It was in 1001 Children's Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up. I love Sweet Lulu's straw selection. One of my FB friends posted a link to Reasons My Son is Crying the other day. It's been making the rounds! I haven't had a chance to really check it out yet. I wish I had better windows for planters! Outside or in... Our windows are not in the best places. I'm very curious about Cinderella, especially with Branaugh directing! I still have a soft spot for Ever After. I need to watch it with the girls sometime. It's been a while, and I doubt they remember it. Those totes are lovely. Orange loaf sounds lovely. Have a safe and wonderful trip!

    1. That Crying Kid thing has blown up HUGE ~ I wish I thought of clever things like that :) That's why I have high hopes for that Cinderella film, b/c of the Branaugh/Blanchett factors!

I LOVE EVER AFTER! Love love loved that movie :)

    1. Thank you Emily! The friend that I'm staying with has lovely books, so I've been busily photographing away...I think everyone around me is used to me photographing everything now (or at least they usually tolerate it pretty well, at any rate). It IS warm! And sunny! A miracle! I have to wear a giant sun hat because my skin is so not used to it :)
