Cool Stuff I Like

Happy Friday, friends. I hope you are well. Remember the love-hate relationship I have with my lanterns? I like them today, because I feel like they're a good reminder of the lights in the darkness that we saw this week with the Boston events. Many friends posted this piece by Patton Oswalt, which I thought was great. My friends who were there are home safely. I can't wait to see them and give them all a hug.

COOL STUFF that I hope brightens your day:

Cereal Puffs.

Emily and Herman? Sounds good!

Advice on writing, helpful for everyone.

Oh well HELLO. Just found inspiration for a brand new stick tree!

Spring Pea Soup.

I've expressed my love time and again, but really for me, this is a perfect blog.

Breakfast Cupcakes.

What cute kitchen scrubbies!

Ogres & Elves game.

I pinned the whole thing

An updated, new and improved version of Andrew's Thor post!

Cool Book of the Week: 'The Girl of the Wish Garden' by Uma Krishnaswami and Nasrin Khosravi. Can. You. BELIEVE? I discovered this retelling of the 'Thumbelina' tale on the site, Indigo. My jaw hung open when I saw it. I didn't like the thumbnail picture of the cover so I scouted around for another (Amazon had the best scan, which doesn't normally happen!). During my search for a decent cover scan, I saw that Perogies & Gyoza did a review of this lovely book not long ago as well. Great minds were thinking alike ~ go see, Perogyo has the book trailer! Iranian artist Khosravi was just an incredible talent who illustrated more than 35 children's books. Sadly, she died of cancer in 2010. I'm going to be trying to get this one in my hands faster than fast. INCREDIBLE art.

Have a lovely weekend! Gonna be planting sweet peas! Not sure if it's the right time or not. Planting them anyway!

~Melissa

  1. The advice on writing link is great! Thank you for sharing!

The Selby blog... oh how fabulous that place looks!!! My new bedroom is finished so I can start decorating and will look into that for inspiration :)

I had to click on that Ogres and Elves game link... you know I had to. And I really like it but I don't think my kid is old enough to really enjoy playing with it yet. But OMG that toy website. I just spent 10 minutes gawking at their collection! (my poor wallet)

I hope you'll have a lovely weekend Melissa. *hugs*

  3. Every time I read one of your friday posts you just make me hungry. But I don't want to make any of it. I want someone to make it for me and then I want to enjoy... and not clean up any of the mess. That is what I want.

  4. Emily and Herman sounds intriguing! Then I noticed that my husband's hero, Jim Harrison, did one of the little blurbs for it. I may have to check it out! I love the stick tree idea. I love Posy Gets Cozy. Ogres & Elves looks super-geeky, so of course, I want it. The pea soup looks good, but I know I'd be the only one in the house who would touch it. The pictures on the Selby looked very familiar! (Pinterest, tee hee.) Andrew's Thor post is so freakin' awesome. And that book looks GORGEOUS!

    1. Right? About that game? Super nerdy! I love it already! I think I'm gonna get that at some point.

Oh Rita Konig, I LOVE HER. She has a blog, did you know? I've been loving on her big time since her Domino mag days. I think she's had those heart sheets since Domino days too, at one point one of her apartment incarnations was featured in the magazine. I've never seen one of her homes as well featured, as it was in that Selby post. Loved it! She's so delightfully British in her design aesthetic. Sorry for the major Rita geek-out moment there, wooo........:)
