Fun Mail

As I mentioned in this post over on Pink Sparkle Fun, making fun, zippy, pizazzy, real-letters-that-go-in-the-mailbox is our new resolution around here. Fun mail is fun to make and fun for your friends! My kiddo's at the age where she wants to write notes to her friends all the time. Last weekend, she wrote a thank you note to her neighbor friend who had a sleepover with us (hilarious! she told her friend that she (the friend) was a "wonderful child"), and decorated an envelope full o' stickers for another buddy, and THEN created a certificate-of-pen-pals card to send to a sweet friend who lives out of state. (whose home we recently visited during spring break.)

But first, a twirling interlude:

There. Now that we've got that out of our system, I have to share a few things that really make fun-letter-making more fun.

STICKERS. Ours live in this box you see below. I have a renewed commitment to bringing more stickers into our lives. Maybe more stickers like this?
(our sticker box is an old shoe box that i wrapped in awesome wrapping paper. yes, those are my feet.)

You also need WASHI TAPE, otherwise known as Japanese deco tape. It's everywhere these days. One of our favorite birthday presents to give out lately is this Funfetti tape kit.

Stickers and washi tape, I'm telling you! I think we also need more fun wrapping paper. And adhesive labels. Is there such a thing as spray-on glitter? BECAUSE I'D BE ALL OVER THAT. But perhaps the post office would not.

Did you know that stationary stores rank right up there behind tea shops and bookstores, in my opinion?
When my kiddo was done, she exclaimed, "Mama! This is so fun! We have to be crafty more often!" So I think we'll set aside time, she and I, at least a couple of times a week, to sit down and do something artsy together because we haven't been good about doing that in awhile.

What about you? Have you sent or received any fun mail?

  1. I love a good twirling interlude! Such a special letter. There is nothing better than receiving a real letter. Snail mail is awesome! We recently had a mailman theme day and wrote lots of letters to our family. So much fun.

    1. Awesome pens...YES. We need some more of those. J is really into Smencils right now and she has a pen she claims smells like red bean paste from these treats we get at our local sushi spot. :)

Twirling is fun! except not for me, I would get dizzy and pass out. :)

  4. I'm totally stealing that funfetti tape birthday present idea. My girl is already planning her 8th birthday party (not until July). We could toss some rolls into goody bags...

    1. It's SUCH a great present, I'm telling you! And party favor! The rolls that we have, those were party favors that my daughter came home with from a birthday party she went to....I've also seen these neat kits where you use the funfetti tape to decorate picture frames and a tote bag :)

  5. I love your little craft material box!!! Everything you need in one area :) Good idea about fun mail. Something the internet can't replace ever!

My renovations are almost complete and I can't wait until I get my craft table set up because I really miss those times when you can sit down with your child and create/draw/paint.

    1. I got that box at Target :) -- our 'art box' is mostly a sanity saving technique. before our box, things were scattered hither and yon....:)

  8. I'm totally crazy about sending and receiving mail. (the bad news is, that I stink at it whenever I'm pregnant) I have three friends whom I've pen palled with (and still do) over the years. I've been corresponding with one of them via post for the past 18 years!!! wow. thats crazy, I hadn't realized it had been that long. to be fair we didn't write letters while we roomed together in college for two years.

AND while Trapper served a two year mission and I was a young college kid we wrote letters back and forth (as best friends) every few weeks. I have all the letters we wrote to one another.

THOUGH- none of my letters have been as wonderful and fantastic as the ones you two have created here. I need to jazz things up!

HOORAY for letters!!! HOORAY for twirling!!!

    1. That is so amazing that you have all those letters! I have the letters my best friends and I sent each other when we were all different colleges -- I re-read them not long ago and LAUGHED a ton!

When I hear about long term pen pals, I'm always reminded of Julia Child and her pen pal friend -- didn't they write for something like 30+ yrs before they actually met?? Incredible!
