Springtime with a parasol.

Hello friends! Oh it feels so strange to be away from this space for even a day. Couldn't make it to staying away for two whole days. Andrew says I have a problem.

Actually I don't feel great. I came back from my trip with a sore throat. Then crazy people tried to blow up Boston and I found out about it on the airplane, and the person seated next to Julia had the news screen on and she saw a bit about what was going on. She doesn't know all what happened but she knows something bad happened.

A very dear friend's husband was running in the marathon. He's ok, and my friend and her daughter (Julia's age) are both ok. My heart goes out to the people who are not ok.

I had these photos gathering dust and a few extra minutes last night, so I speedy quick threw a post together. (Junie B. Jones get OUT of my head! I've been talking like her. It's addicting, the Junie-speak.)

I'll be back with a few Melissa-and-Julia Go To California pictures tomorrow, but for today, I leave you with a sunny day, a little girl playing dress up in a fancy twirly dress, and a parasol. The dear friend I just mentioned gave Julia the parasol a few years ago.

(another friend gave this princess dress to Julia and it's too large to wear to real parties, but Julia wears it for dress up all the time, she loves it....)

    1. Thank you Cherie! That parasol came all the way from Venice, Italy. I'm so happy it has manged to stay unbroken and in good condition. Things like that I'd love for Julia to be able to hand down to her children :)

  3. My friend's husband was there too, and thank goodness he's okay. I don't understand the world we live in. Sometimes I feel as though I belong in another time and place. I'm glad you had a wonderful time. Hug that little girl of yours!

  5. What a beautiful parasol! And a beautiful girl! So glad to hear your friends were ok. I have several friends in and around Boston so I was facebook stalking them to make sure everyone was safe and accounted for. THese things are hard when you're a mom, I think. It feels like....when will things be calm and safe? Hope Julia doesnt get too worried or anxious about what she saw or heard.

    1. Facebook can really be a great thing, don't you think? The second I arrived home, I was racing to check on my friends on FB. Thankfully, Julia doesn't seem to be too inquiring about the whole deal. She was sad that some people died. But it seems to have gone right over her head, for which I'm grateful. xo

So don't envy you for having to explain it to Julia.

    1. I am so glad too, oh you have no idea...my mother called me all in a panic this morning because she knew these friends of mine were in Boston (we all go to the same haircut lady, which is kinda funny. I was like, they're ok! They're all right! I'll never understand this level of crazy.

I took an Emergen-C packet this morning and went for a walk with Andrew and cleaned out a bunch of stuff in Julia's toy bins (candy wrappers, feathers, lint, toddler toys..) and I feel so much better! :)

  9. Thanks for bringing a smile to this Bostonians face with photos of your adorable little girl and her parasol! Your blog has become kind of my internet “happy place.” Always something fun to read, see or do and never any grumpiness. Glad your friends are ok and I hope Julia keeps smiling rather than worrying about what happened yesterday.

    1. Oh Diana! What a lovely, lovely thing to say. Thank you so much. (if you ever saw me in real life, you would realize very super quick that I have 1) really bad PMS and 2) have turned complaining and moaning and whining into an art form :). But this is my Happy Space and I'm so thrilled that you find it a happy space as well! And now that I see the name of your blog, I am off to visit you because I see the magic combo of 'books' and 'food'.....xo!
