We Went Somewhere!

We went to California! For spring break. Going places is a big excitement. Until I realize I have to pack for a small child and I have to make sure that I've got just the right stuffed animals packed. Then my excitement level diminishes somewhat. Every trip I go on, Andrew has to remind me, "You know, I'm pretty sure there will be STORES where you're going."

We stayed in the flower-filled home of a friend of mine that I grew up with in Hawaii. Our daughters are the same age and they had the grandest time playing, playing, playing....and singing and drawing and giggling and playing some more. At one point I walked into the girls' room and my daughter said, "Shoo." OH EXCUSE ME, I accidentally walked into a Very Exclusive Club. The Seven Year Old and Chihuahua Club. (My friend has two hilariously sweet doggies who loved to be wherever the girls were.)

They had the swellest time! My kiddo was so sad to leave her friend when it was time to go.

I'm a big fan of all this color! I need to ask my friend where she got her marvelous toy storage boxes for her daughter.

LOVE THOSE ORCHIDS!! My friend has awesomer orchids than I do! Took pix of my food because it was the best salad ever. It had fava beans, shaved artichoke, peas, different lettuces and fabulous salmon on top. I want to replicate this salad at home, but it will never ever look as pretty as this one did.

Oh. My child is not crying, by the way. She is yelling at me that the sun was too bright in her eyes. We're not used to the whole sun phenomenon thingamabobby-adoodle. I don't even know what you call it anymore. SUNSHINE? Except Seattle is so TENACIOUS WITH ITS GREY, it chased us down to California and we saw the sun briefly on the first and last day, but the middle days were cloudy and overcast. It felt just like home. Isn't that KIND of Seattle? So loving? It didn't want us to miss it!

The girls were out of their minds excited to discover that they had the same exact Mini Boden dress ~ they insisted upon wearing their matching dresses out to lunch and to the Santa Monica Pier. They rode the roller coaster six times. Julia won a LaLa Loopsy stuffed doll. After being beaten several times by a small boy, we finally had to shoo everyone away and pay an exorbitant amount of money for this water shooting game so that we could win a game for each girl. One little boy won three times in a row, so we had to pay for another round of gaming and he was showing no signs of going anywhere. Finally I looked at him and was like, "Buddy? It's time to move along now. Let someone else win!"

I got to see my dear friend Aadip (turns out he's NOT the Worst Cook in America!), and his fabulous wife and baby! Check out the expression on the baby's face in the bottom pic. Priceless. I carried the baby around for the better part of an hour and she never cried once. I'm Officially Awesome with Babies, according to my pal Aadip.

I'm Officially Awesome at so many things, I've realized. Wasting time. Arguing. Eating cookies. Avoiding the laundry basket. Bothering Andrew. Bothering my child. Leaving clothes and toys out in PLAIN SIGHT for my cat to destroy. Yay me!

So, there's a little peeky at our trip. I found some great books in Noe's room! (that's my friend's daughter.) I'll show those to you SOON.

  1. Yay, happy pictures! I'm glad you had such a great time. I love the flowers, the ferris wheel, the chihuahuas, the baby... Sorry the sun wasn't an enthusiastic playmate, but your smiles seem sunny enough. :o)

    1. Oh it was no worries about the sun...I was hiding from what little there was under my giant hat anyway! I just realized it's That Time. Where I have to start exposing my skin to sunlight for 5 minutes at a time, to acclimate it. By the end of summer, my skin is really really happy. The fall/winter comes and it no longer is happy....

    1. So glad you like it Cherie :) Oh that BABY! I call her 'The Queen of All The Babies'. She is DIVINE. Meeting her in person for the first time, it was like meeting a celebrity that I've been seeing on film (or in this case, Facebook) for ages...:)

  5. Thanks Juju! Actually the girls have seen each other, off and on, since they were babies. Their first meet up was in Hawaii when they were 1, then my friend and Noe came up to Seattle when the girls were 3, then we visited a year later, and also had a brief outing later that same year when we went to Disneyland, and now this trip! Julia refers to Noe as her "fake cousin" :)

    1. Ha ha! Not sure about that orchid thing! I'm telling you, with mine, it's sheer luck. They just love my window! One is turning a bit yellowish on the leaves and I'm wondering what that means...over or underwatering??
