But today, I have 'The Terrible Troll-Bird' for you. I have to tell you something. If I see a restaurant that has the words 'cafe' or 'bistro' in the title, I will want to go into it.
Likewise, if I see a children's book that has anything to do with Scandinavia and trolls....I don't even stop to think, I just get the book. This one JUMPED INTO MY HANDS at the library. Has that ever happened to you? Books just FLY into your arms? It happens, I'm telling you.
Then they roast up that giant, mega-chicken and "the smell of roast chicken filled the whole valley." Well that sounds tasty and delicious! Warning all you troll-birds: you might be killed by a blunderbluss and roasted on a spit.
Then the trolls come along and are all, "WHERE'S OUR BIRD, YO?" and the villagers are like, "hey we ate it, and guess what the sun is coming up and you're gonna turn into stone. HOW DO YOU LIKE THEM APPLES???"
It's a fun, silly book. After the troll bird is roasted, various 'red-capped gnomes' and 'green clad sprites' come out to have fun at the chicken-eating soiree as well.
Mostly what really excites me though, is that I have a new catchphrase, thanks to this fine story. "OH FOR ALL THE WORLD'S PANCAKES" is going to be coming out of my mouth for a very, very long time.
Yes, but what happens when the sun goes down again??? I must know!! :) Won't the trolls come back to life???
ReplyDeleteThis book looks awesome!
ha ha ha! nopey, that's not how it works, apparently ~ once a troll is caught unawares during a sunrise, poof! that's the end of the troll!
DeleteI love the pic of the giant bird roasting on the spit, that's my favorite :)
Awesome expression. Adorable art.
ReplyDeleteso fun right?? :)
DeleteOh, gracious, I need this one. Along with my own copy of their Book Of Trolls. This just makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteThe Book of Trolls is fab too! That one is actually better for kids Julia's age, more text intensive. We had that one from the library over the winter. I'd love to own both of them!
Deletetrolls make me happy too :)
DeleteLooks like a beauty. Thanks, I was wondering about it. Have you ever seen the Orlando the cat book? Might be up your street. English, sixties, quirky, detailed crayony drawings. I saw it at the library and did'nt get it and now I cant find it. (We have a new big library near us which is beautiful, but has so much sunny, open space that my toddler just wants to run and run, so I can't browse or ask questions. All I can do is follow him.)
ReplyDeleteOk I have NOT seen those books, and they look AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! I just tried to place a hold at my library, but their site is down. boo. They look so cute! There's a camping one! And a seaside one! Very intrigued, thank you :)
Deletecongrats on the new library :) ~ I remember taking Julia when she was a tiny tot. it was an exercise in futility.....:)
I long to own some Orlando books, but aside from the first one, they can be so expensive. They look amazing.
DeleteApols, I was wrong about them being sixties - I think they are forties or fifties. Hope you get one!
Deleteso fun and funny! I love the new catchphrase!
ReplyDeleteit's a good one! OH FOR ALL THE WORLD'S PANCAKES!
DeleteThe Trolls scare me a little bit. Just a little... but I guess that's good otherwise they wouldn't be trolls, rights? The drawings are really something different though from what I have seen so far so that's really interesting!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have the same philosophy when it comes to Bistro and Cafe :P
ha ha, glad to know I'm not alone in my cafe/bistro obsession!
