Homelife

So here's what's been going on around here. Lettuce. Is growing! And bunnies. Are multiplying! I think we might be on the verge of having an official Bunny Problem. They are everywhere. Small ones. A bigger one. They have made a BURROW in a corner of our yard. They drive our kitty cats WILD. Every morning, the cats go and sit by our back patio door and stare at the various bunnies, birds, and squirrels...and the cats chatter their teeth and swish their tails. We call this "Kitty Cat TV."

Miraculously, the bunnies do not seem to have noticed our lettuce!! But they have been enjoying our mint and have been ripping up the grass something fierce. The bunny up above was ripping up grass and then going to the burrow and putting the grass in it.

For a historically not-particularly-doll-oriented girl, Julia's been getting more into her dolls lately. The vintage Barbies were from a family friend; they came in the original boxes! We cheerfully ripped them open and began playing with the dollies. I love the Vegas showgirl Barbie. Our cat chewed on her hand. She ain't pristine vintage no more!

And Julia's Paul Bunyan obsession continues. We found that on Netflix, there is some show containing a bunch of old Disney short films, and there was a Paul Bunyan episode! She has watched it at least once a day since we found it. I really am kind of bewildered by the Paul Bunyan thing. We also got this 'American Tall Tales' audio CD from the library.

Oh and I made some homemade chicken nuggets, and Julia had a friend sleep over and she and her friend told me that they were the best chicken nuggets they had ever had. Do I have a recipe to give you? No I do not. I'll do a post on them sometime.

I haven't been drinking very much tea lately, but when I do, it's been either jasmine tea or Kusmi Petroushka tea. OH FOR ALL THE WORLD'S PANCAKES, have any of you tried Kusmi tea yet?

  1. Yes, Melissa! I love Kusmi teas. I am totally into my green tea with rose petals at present although I must say your's looks right up my street :-)

I'm popping in to say you saved my daughter's day last week. She was looking for a cake recipe, I directed her towards your post with Nigel Slater's Midsummer's cake and she MADE it for her friend's Midsummer birthday party. It was much enjoyed by her teenage friends :-)

Thinking of you. I've hurt my back!! Yikes!

    1. She made the cake??!! Oh I am SO thrilled! I'm so glad! And glad that it was all a success!

I am so so sorry to hear you hurt your back...I had a bad back problem for about 4-5 years and it was a misery...it's much better now but I have to be careful with it. I haven't been good about keeping up my core/ab strengthening exercises lately (since Julia was born, ha), I really need to get back on that wagon...

Be well and take care of yourself!! xoxoxo

    1. we spend the most time in this room and there is a great deal of cheerful red in there :)

I promise to do a write up on those chicken nuggets soon! I'm making them again this weekend for J and another friend.

  3. I loved the visual image I got of you two ripping open those vintage barbie packages!!! That's awesome! haha- and then the kitty chewing, so funny! So, do your kitties spend any time outdoors or are they strictly inside cats? Our cats also enjoy 'cat tv' watching the bird feeders. But they go outside too... and the younger kitty gets into all kinds of mischief chasing magpies and kingfishers... it's often comical.

love these posts! Good luck with your bunny problem!!!

    1. Oh yes, you cannot give us precious things, we will trash them! tee hee

Our kitties are indoor only...for now. If either of them develop irritable bowel syndrome like my other cat did..well outside they go!

yikes re the bunnies. not sure what we're going to do about that, we've never had bunnies around before....

    2. If you let your cats outside you will probably solve your bunny problem. It's one of the only reasons we had cats growing up - to keep bunnies out of my mom's garden.

    3. That thought never occurred to me! How clever! Andrew and I must ponder upon this. Our cats would LOVE this ~ once they cornered a mouse in the house and it was the greatest day of their kitty cat lives, I am pretty sure :)

  4. I didn't try that tea yet!!! Must do one day. Stuck at work for now but I need to get it eventually.

Poor Kitty LOL The bunnies are a test in their patience!

Julia's dolls are beautiful! I like that kimono btw! I got myself a few for my dollies as well :D

  5. Still haven't tried that tea... But then, I'm ripping through coffee like you wouldn't believe. I bought a bag of fresh-roasted Swedish coffee in Lindsborg, and another bag at a new coffee roaster here in town.

My girls have been given cheaper new Barbies for their birthdays, and they have some of my old vintage dolls, found at my grandma's. Little Sis likes to drag them out when she plays My Little Pony sometimes. Most of their Ponies are vintage, too. We've been watching those Disney shorts, too! Your bridge photo is GORGEOUS. Kitty Cat TV??? That's so funny. My older girls no longer care about what goes on in the great outdoors, but Mabel likes to perch herself on the back of the couch and stare out the window. Sometimes, I think she's saying "nanny nanny boo boo" to her brother and sister. But then, they're mean little hunters who like to climb the trees and snatch baby birds, so maybe she's a little jealous. Who knows?

    1. I wish I enjoyed coffee. I feel like it would enhance my life in a magical way. I have been TIRED lately! (says the girl who keeps going to bed near midnight)

The other day Julia and I entertained ourselves by looking up vintage My Little Ponies. We discovered that many are $5! shipping is probably more than most of these dolls, ha ha. She found one that she loved called Little Giggles. We haven't ordered it but maybe at some point Little Giggle will come to live with us.

Someday we might let the kitties out. They would have the most glorious time!

    1. Ah that's a good idea, to have your stuff close to the house! Right now I think the slugs are nibbling on things more than the bunnies. Oh the bunnies are so cute! But I am worried that they are going to TAKE OVER.

    2. Oh! The show on Netflix! It's called Disney Animation Vol. 4, it's the one that has the Tortoise and the Hare. There are others as well!

  7. HELLO! I feel I must always begin my comments with some sort long lost greeting...perhaps one day it will not be like that anymore. (And maybe then I will also be in shape and have a perpetually clean house--one can dream, right?)

So Paul Bunyan still, huh? Is it all tall tales or just Paul Bunyan? I did catch the original Paul Bunyan post by the way, but when I went to comment it somehow sent me to a pie post. All the comments were on pie and I couldn't for the life of me figure out what that had to do with Paul Bunyan until I scrolled up and discovered the internet was messing with me-- which is something the internet seems to enjoy quite a bit.

ANYWAY!! I came across (but haven't actually read) a book that might be good: The Bunyans by Audrey Wood, illustrated by David Shannon. (So the art is guaranteed to be great!) Also, while I'm thinking about it, my favorite book about bunny invaders is Muncha! Muncha! Muncha! by Candace Fleming.

Now then, how can you have so many lovely sunny looking images there? We've had rain for like the last 2 weeks I think...but everyone has been playing nicely so it's okay. Also that button pillow is fantastic! My dog would probably eat all the buttons off, making it not fantastic, but it looks great in your house. And we have plenty of handless barbies as well, if yours ever want to get together for a support group or something ;)

    1. We LOVE Muncha Muncha Muncha! Such a great book! J is primarily into Paul Bunyan right now, but she's been greatly enjoying the Tall Tales CD we got from the library, which has Pecos Bill and Johnny Appleseed stories on it.

I would like you to know that I am chortling with laughter about you ending up on some pie entry, I will have to go check on that post! I would also like you to know that your comments are better and more entertaining than my actual blog posts! You are too fabulous, Miss Whitney. xoxoxoxo

    1. Well you see, I have a little pillow addiction. And I get bored with them very easily, so I mainly stick to the $4 Ikea variety so I don't feel too badly about switching them out :) ~ the button pillow was originally from West Elm and my awesome mom-in-law found it brand new with the tags still on at a garage sale! My main pillows lurking sources are Ikea, West Elm, Cost Plus, and various Etsy shops :)
