  1. Julia is really into cooking! How lucky you are. My son can't even get his own cup of water... (well yes he can but he is so lazy he will ask me first).

Great to see kid's art! Julia's drawing is so full of sunshine and smiles! I love when they get creative!

Good luck with the jam making!

  2. Thank you. Mark wants to try canning and thinks I'm silly for being scared of it. I'm showing him this to say that other people are nervous about canning too! Freezer jam works just fine, thank you very much! :D

And where on earth/east side did you find that gorgeous tomato!!!! I'm craving a super good, really vine ripened tomato sandwich. And bacon.

    1. my mom gave me that tomato! she "has a friend" at the farmer's market. she makes friends with any and all tomato-selling ladies at farmer's markets. it all sounds very shady and underworld gangster-ish, if you ask me :)

  3. My mom and I are going to make plum jam soon too! We usually steer clear of the liquid pectin, by the way. Go with the powdered pectin. And follow the recipe to the letter. It's pretty much fool-proof.

I love that tart... it looks like a yummy pizza! xoxo

    1. i think that pectin is powdery b/c it's just in a little cardboard box, so i'm thinking it can't be liquid in there! supposedly it gels with less sugar. ??

It's the sterilizing of the jars that scares me! someone told me they took a class and that scared me more....I was like, you need a CLASS??

    2. Mark told me this weekend that plenty of "less than smart" people can and that if we can read we can can food. I'm convinced we're all going to die of botulism. From jelly. ;)

  5. That tart looks awesome, your orchid is gorgeous, your selfie makes me giggle, and I wanted to try canning, and my grandmother freaked out on me and told me I shouldn't. Ha. (It was because of the sterilizing thing. She cans sometimes, and went through a phase in the '80s where she canned all the time.) I love homemade jam, though.

    1. ok see, I feel like this may go the way of my camping obsession....dying a fiery death in the flames of fear! the sterilizing! that's what's holding me up! :)

    1. By the time she's 14, I'm going to expect her to make one dinner a week! it's a beautiful dream. I've had a similar dream regarding Andrew and dinner for the past decade....:)

  8. Yes, freezer jam!! Do that! Canning is not for me! I did it once with my cousin and my mom and I detested the whole experience...burning hot water, worrying if the jars sealed all the way, also it was like a midnight (that seems important to the story for some reason.)
So yeah, not my favorite thing. Having said that, lots of people are very good at it and can seriously delicious stuff which I love to eat....and you are talented in the kitchen so you will likely be a great success!!!
