Cool Stuff I Like

I feel like a sock monkey. Not sure what I mean by that exactly, but I think I feel sock monkey-ish. Stuffed (full of too much blueberry pie). Weird hair right now. (I need a trim BADLY.) Perpetually wearing a slightly dazed expression. You know what I need? To do more art. I want to play with playdough and watercolor. Julia and I have been running here, there, and all over the place, and what I really want to do is sit down and just color in a coloring book. Coloring can be a really Wonderful & Relaxing thing.

COOL STUFF I liked this week:

This line is now available in the US!!!!

Making this soup on the first chilly day that comes my way.

Speaking of coloring books, this one is neato.

Blueberry pudding cake.

French Summer Tea!

How to craft with kids.

You have to see this AMAZING book.

Just got this jacket for Julia in prep for fall. On sale for $19!

A treasure lei!!! Totally doing this for a future birthday party.

Cool Book of the Week 'Wild' by Emily Hughes will be released this September, and I cannot wait to see this one in person. Emily's art won her 2nd place for the Macmillan's Prize for Children's Picture Books in 2012 and she sites Gyo Fujikawa and John Bauer as artistic inspirations. YEAH!!!! And here's the kicker: she's from Hilo, Hawaii!! (she now lives in the UK.) You go, kama'aina girl!

'Wild' is about a girl of the forest who has been raised by animals. After attempts to bring her into civilization fail, she makes her way back to her beloved wilderness life. You can read more about it here, and read a bit more about Emily's work here. This book looks totally fresh and that cover art stopped me in my paces instantly. I've gotta get my hands on it when it comes out....

Have a lovely weekend!

  1. That blueberry cake looks suspiciously like blueberry cobbler. I'm going to have to make both for comparison. In the name of science of course. Yeah, uh, "science."

  2. Oh, that book looks awesome! I'm excited to see it. Thanks for the link, by the way. Adorable jacket, love the coloring book,French summer iced tea sounds awesome! I've never been to an H&M, although one has now replaced the Barnes & Noble at Union Station here in DC. The only place in Union Station I'm desperate to hit before we leave is Dangerously Delicious Pies. All pies, all the time. It's the best. Happy Friday!

  3. Holy moley that H&M line looks adorable and perfect for a growing girl (not to old, not too young). I've never been to one either, but I think there's one near my town now. I may have to go check it out! Happy weekend to you, Melissa! xoxo

    1. feeling 'sock-monkey-ish' should definitely be a legitimate emotional state, even if no one really knows what it is :)
