Heroes of the Vegetable Patch

September 9, 2013

Is this not the cutest?? When I visited an old friend during spring break, I discovered this adorable book called 'Heroes of the Vegetable Patch' by Ulf Stark and Charlotte Ramel.

And originally, it came from Ikea of all places! Have you ever seen the books at Ikea? They are super cute!

The gist of the story is that two kids chip in to help take care of an elderly lady's veggie patch when she has to leave town for a few days. The veggies were worried that no one would take care of them during the old lady's absence, but not only do the kids do a bang-up job, they are magically made small so that they can play and have veggie revels with the produce.

The colors and the art. What do you think of it? Isn't it so incredibly like.....beautiful fruits and veggies? Look at their little party! Look at the little lantern string!

I thought this book was just a STUNNER. What a fun fun picture book. I love the faces on the tiny veggies! This book is just what I associate with Ikea. Vibrant, fun, and colorful. Still haven't made it to Ikea yet. It's been something like.....6 months! I'm having Ikea withdrawal. And I just realized that I never got this year's catalog? How did that happen? Why didn't it come? Doesn't Ikea know how much I love them?

(update: the link for the book takes you to Ikea, where the book is currently for sale. There are also used copies available on Amazon.)

    1. actually I wonder if they have an Ikea in Hawaii. I don't think they do! For the longest time, I was anti-Ikea. Now I'm pro. Pro pro pro. Once I had a kid, I got totally on board with Ikea! I really like it. It's so.....clean looking. And happy. Clean and happy. Julia likes to have lunch there sometimes :)

  3. You know, when I first saw the picture in this post I thought, "That looks *just* like our Ikea curtains in the kids' room. I wonder if it's by the same artist..." And wouldn't you know it, it is! The curtains have little veggies peeking out of the grass along the bottom. So cute. The story sounds adorable! xoxo
