Our Weekend Looks Like This

September 30, 2013

Tea and video games!!! That's pretty standard around here.

I'm realizing that tomorrow is OCTOBER 1. How did that happen? Wasn't it early Sept just a day or so ago? We have no Halloween costume picked out! I'm not ready! I just put up my autumn leaves tree! Now I have to switch it out for my Halloween tree?? Gah, I messed up the timing of this. Stupid first world problems.

I made an apple pie this weekend. (actually I'm typing this before I made the pie. but by the time you are reading this, I will have made the pie. isn't that funny how faux blogging really is? i'll have an apple post for you later this week.)

It's rained and rained. We turned the heat on. Then we turned the heat off. Off, on. We'll continue in this vein for another month or so and then it will just be ON. I don't look forward to turning-the-heat-on time because for the first couple of weeks, the gas heat gives me headaches, but Julia and Andrew love it and race each other to get to their favorite heater spots. Julia likes to have her breakfast while sitting on the heater, but those days have to be very Non Messy breakfasts.

And in the FYI dept of your blog reading, our old cat Robin, he used to puke in/on our heaters. It was his favorite place to throw up. Poor little guy, he had irritable bowel syndrome. He's in kitty heaven now, and now instead of the puking, we have the clothes eater (Sally) and the plastic eater (Rosebud).

I've decided I don't really like animals very much anymore. (don't tell my daughter!)

  1. I just laughed out loud at your cat stories! RIP little Robin! Poor fellow but what a nasty illness that was!

Your family love the heater so much you should get a Kotatsu (Japanese table with heater underneath)!

It's getting close to Halloween really quickly! I wished my boy could decide now what he wants to be otherwise we will be racing against the clock and in a packed store with hundreds of parents who were shopping last minute like us!

  2. You have some very neurotic cats, my dear. I think you should quit while you're ahead. I shudder to think of the kind of cat you'd end up with next! LOL

    1. Once upon a time I had a normal cat. His name was Alex. He was just a normal cat (although he would rip thru foil or plastic to get to a loaf of bread) and very sweet until he got sick a died. Definitely my most 'normal' cat!!

  3. We have a puker (Katie the Siamese), who likes to sleep on paper (any paper), and has to take meds for thyroid disease. We have a former puker (Jenny), who is now very, very chubby. We think she might be a recovering bulimic. Then there's Mabel, who likes to terrorize the old lady kitties. I think all cats are neurotic and weird. I want a dog next. (And I like kitties!) These pictures are fabulous, by the way.

    1. Julia desperately wants a dog!! Trying to put her off for another year, but I think a dog is in our future.....hopefully one who has already been potty trained......

  4. I can completely relate to the "turning the heat on" thing :) And cats! They can be a handful for such "low maintenance" pets. Ours likes to pee on the bed when we are IN bed, so she's not allowed to be on our bed anymore (when we're in it, of course). Still love her though 90% of the time! Looking forward to your fall recipe posts! Yum!!!

  5. *giggle* It's not funny about your kitty but I'm feeling the same way about animals these days myself. ;)

    Rest in peace Robin.

I love these pictures. Tea and video games. Sounds like a fun way to spend a weekend. I need more tea time.

  6. Our weekend consisted of Video Games and hot cocoa, it was SO cold here for a few days!!! I totally understand your on and off heater game. I'd like a nice Indian Summer please. :) Have you read the Bad Kitty books? We own that black cat. I swear to you, he wrote those books about our cat! (sometimes sweet, sometimes horrid... you just never know when she'll switch over)
