We Picked Apples

Look at all of the apples! And you know where they came from? My mom has a tree! She's had it for a couple of years I think, but this is the first time that it's been fruit-bearing. I have no idea what kind they are, but they are half green and half red, and they are sweet-tart, kind of like a cross between a granny smith and a gala.

Things like apple trees just blow my mind. I grew up with exotic tropical fruit trees, like papaya and mango and guava trees. But apple and pear trees? THOSE are exciting to me! Look how many apples are on this thing! Julia and I just had the swellest time. My mom made applesauce, and I made a pie, which I will share a recipe for next week.

Seriously look at these things!

  1. Julia looks so tall in your pictures! They grow up fast at this age! That's an impressive amount of apples for one tree! There is one small apple tree in my neighbor's yard but it's very small and bears a few tiny apples. Funny how you think apple and pear trees are exciting :D I would love to have a mango and guava tree! (because I love to eat the fruits LOL) Do share your recipe! I want to try baking something new :)

  2. Oh, you make me want to go apple-picking! And I have a bowl of apples from one of my husband's co-workers (he has apple trees) sitting right here. The only thing I have ever baked with apples myself is apple crisp. My grandma is the pie and applesauce maker. Love these pictures. Julia looks proud! :)

  3. We went apple picking too! We went up to a local orchard on Friday – you are so lucky to have a mama-owned tree! Outside of heading to the pumpkin patch, I don't know if there is a more quintessential fall activity than apple picking. xoxo

  4. I can't wait to do this. I've never picked one before.

  5. Jealous! Wish I had an apple tree in my yard. Maybe I can find a place for one and somehow manage not to kill it.

I'd love to go apple-picking again. We used to go every year with my grandparents when I was little.
