Classic gifts are what I'm focusing on this year, for the blog and for my kiddo. These are the things she's either already received in previous years, or that we're considering for her this year.
So here we go on my end:
Last year, Santa brought Julia a Razor scooter with light up wheels, and it was THE BIG HIT of her Christmas. She hadn't learned to ride a 2 wheel bike at that point, and man, did that scooter rock her world. She adored it, and got to be the queen 'o scootering on it, and a few months later, off she went on her bike. I credit the scooter with giving her balance and confidence. She still loves it! Every kid needs a scooter.
Pretty sure she's getting a globe this year, she's fascinated with geography lately and where things are in the world. A globe that lights up seems extra cool to me.
Last year, Julia received some mini walkie talkies, and to say they didn't work would be an understatement. What a piece of garbage! She was SO excited, and they SO didn't work. So this year we may try again, and *cough*, pony up more cash than we did for the mini ones. What use is a walkie talkie if they DON'T WORK??? It may be a case of you get what you pay for. Anyway, these Spygear walkie talkies are more than we paid for last year, seem sturdier, but are less $ than the brands that claim you can talk 2 miles away. I don't need 2 miles, just upstairs and downstairs would work for me!
Julia has always been into nonfiction and informational books, since she was a toddler. And she really is into "learning facts" and looking up random pieces of information these days. So I just picked up 'The Old Farmer's Almanac for Kids, Vol.5' book for her which appears loaded with fun, cool, and interesting-to-kids facts, and it's got gazillions of pictures on every single page. I think she's going to LOVE it!
We desperately need new games, more big kid games. (Julia is nearing 8.) I loved Parcheesi when I was little, and I think it's high time that we have our own set. At some point, I also want to pick up 'Life'. I LOVE THAT GAME!
So there you have it! You can check out last year's Gift Guide here. And you should check out this Gift Guide for Kids Pinterest board!
I love alll this advice.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted a light up globe.
ReplyDeleteMe too! Me too! I LOVE globes.
DeleteWalkie talkies rocked my girls' world last year. We have a little "park" in the 'hood and I can send them down there with the walkie talkies and they feel like that are on safari. My husband did spend up so that they lasted - they are also great for camping.
ReplyDeleteNow, onto Parcheesi. How on earth do you play THAT! I bought a vintage (or just old, who knows) set and was so excited. That was until I tried to play it and went Fur. ;)
here's a funny thing about Parcheesi: I have no memory about how to play it! If we get it, I'm hoping there's some directions in that there box!! All I remember is that I really liked it a lot as a kid. And that the the rules of play are similar to the board game 'Sorry', I think??
DeleteGOTTA get us some walkie talkies that work!!!
No one in my house has asked for an Easy Bake Oven this year. I'm okay with this. :o)
ReplyDeleteI've thought about adding Life to our board games. We love Uno and Yahtzee, and we have the Madeline edition of Scrabble Jr.
Honestly, I don't think Julia would care 2 hoots about it -- I just need one in my life to fulfill a childhood dream.....:)
DeleteGreat list! We have had so many walkie talkies, all when our kids were too young to both press and speak at the same time. (I've done this SO often - buying things too soon!) but I think the ones that worked were from some outdoorsy place like llbean. p.s. its true - scooters are excellent!
ReplyDeleteawesome!!! i have GOT to get some that work properly this time.
DeleteGreat gift selection! I have always wanted an Easy Bake Oven too! Never got one. My boy (yes my boy!) now wants one but my husband says the interest won't last for long.... I am still debating whether or not to get it for him! And yes scooters are awesome! My boy and all his cousins love their scooters! I got him a globe last year but it does not light up (darn it!)
ReplyDeletethat is so fabulous! you guys can make tiny treats!!! love it!!!!
DeleteVery cool! Thank you for this awesome list. My son--shockingly--doesn't have a scooter. Must. Get. It. :)
