Cool Stuff I Like

November 8, 2013

Happy Friday my friends! I do NOT enjoy daylight savings, no I do not. And I realized that I need to start Christmas gift planning, like RIGHT NOW. Am I going to make mini advent presents for Julia like I did last year? Who knows? I guess I better figure that out. I've hit the wall with the pumpkin food products, I peaked too early! Oh well. I made this recipe this past week, and it was a huge hit. I got this book and I'm so excited to find out what happens. Don't tell me!

COOL STUFF for you this week:

Fall Mantel Decor.

HOT COCOA POPCORN.

People in the UK!! If I were you, I would totally buy one of these fabulous winter fairies.

Kids and responsibility.

Omigolly, this is a darling autumn garland!

Loaded Cranberry Juice.

GINGERBREAD DOUGHNUTS???? I've pinned a million donut recipes, but these I am MAKING.

A game plan for Thanksgiving.

This shop is kind of like a mini Mini Boden.

Want some truly unique Christmas cards from an amazing artist? I just got some!

I like this idea. (it's ok to be totally discussing Christmas right??)

Cool Book of the Week: 'Dream Animals' by Emily Winfield Martin, creator of my beloved 'Oddfellows Orphanage' book. Have you read that one yet?? It's so amazing! This one is the most beautiful bedtimey nighttime picturebook, and all I can say is....the beauty of Emily's art in this enchanting volume, about children imagining what their dream animal might be, is going to make you gasp. It's incredible. RUN and GET THIS as a Christmas present for your favorite toddler/preschooler.

Have a lovely weekend! What are you up to? Making any treats or watching any cool movies?

~Melissa

  1. On Friday morning, I have two rituals : drink my TGIF coffee with extra sugar, and read your Cool Stuff I like post! I saw that book on Amazon and I was dying to get it! There is just something special about her beautiful illustrations that make me drool and fantasize about that dreamland! The chicken recipe seems fairly easy and I would love to try it out! And yes a colorful Christmas is pretty! I like to stick to the regular red and green theme but a dash of color here and there will be nice!

  2. I have a coupon for my local indie store. I just have to find it, because then Dream Animals will be mine! Love the winter fairies, the hot chocolate popcorn looks crazy, love the mantel stuff, although my '50s slate fireplace doesn't have one (pout), beautiful garland, Mr. B and I are ordering cards from Audrey Eclectic closer to payday, cool store.... Look at my rambling stuff off without any coffee in my system! I'm excited for Christmasy stuff, but I keep reminding the girls, Thanksgiving is next! Don't ignore Thanksgiving!

    1. I told Julia about the popcorn and she looked skeptical. I think it sounds great!!! Julia read Cranberry Thanksgiving today and that made me happy, and she's learning about Pilgrims at school, and loves Charlie Brown Thanksgiving. I love the part where they just eat popcorn!

I'm with you. I hate it too. I feel like it cuts our time with the hubs down after work.

  5. I am totally in Christmas mode-- I feel like if I don't think about it now I'll get way behind and then I won't get it all done and then I will be running to stores like a mad person the week of Christmas and paying unnecessary shipping costs..yada yada yada. I am the worrying type though, have you ever noticed?

Does the worrying mean I will actually get anything done on time? It, sadly, does not.

Looovely fall photo up top by the way and how have I not said, "Wowity wow!!! Excellent work!!" concerning the new site/photo portfolio!! I love how you capture moments, real beauty, connections between people! Thats the kind of picture my family needs taken of us-- we're sucking it up at the pose and stay still stuff. Maybe next Easter weekend (when I will inevitably be in Seattle area-- it's happened coincidentally the past 2 years-- if it happens again I WILL COME SEE YOU!!)

Anyway hey-- cool stuff-- how about I actually comment on topic!! Love the bright christmas idea! Gingerbread doughnuts? YES!! Send some to me please (when you make them!) Also I would now go off on another tangent about kids and chores and how I DO make mine help...but I've already gone off...WAY OFF in this comment.

The book looks so fantastic!! Which reminds me, is it one of the 20 of the most beautiful on your list?? Yes, you MUST do a post on that....we all must!! It really would be fun to see each other's picks!!

    1. I am so worried too! I've done nothing, I tell you! Nothing! This happens to me every yr of my life and apparently will continue in an endless loop until the end of time.

This book WOULD go into a top 20 Most Beautiful! Emily's art is flat out amazing.

I think I would pop with happiness of you came back into my neck of the woods and actually LET ME KNOW this time! :) xo

    1. nah! banish those lame and inadequate thoughts! Just a good little reminder. I have to remind myself ALL the time, ok she's nearly 8, she can get herself a drink of water and help CLEAN UP this place once in awhile, tee hee hee (what she can't do is put away an article of clothing to save her life.....)
