Fairytale Photos

Hey guys! So, a quick pop-in today. I really wish my photo website blog was up so I could put my photo stuff on it. I'm thinking though.....in the new year I might just redesign this site (GOODBYE BLUE BIRDS, you drive me CRAZY) and put photo stuff on it as well. But anyway. blah blah blah.

What I wanted to show & tell you, for those of you who aren't yet following my photo page on Facebook (whut??), is that I've begun a photo series inspired by fairytale concepts. You know, just because I need to entertain myself. So here's photo #1 in the series:

The Princess.

Oh this girl! Doesn't she look like one of those Dutch old master paintings??? She actually reminds me of the drawings of princesses in my 'Swedish Folk Tales' book, which has AMAZING ART, and you should TOTALLY GET THAT as a Christmas present for SOMEONE.

Anyway, here's a little secret ~ I loathe taking group shots. Ooooooh my least favorite. And yet, that's what everyone wants! A decent group photo of their family! I am not good at, or fond of, the group photo, and therefore...I WILL MASTER IT. But in the meantime, I needed a special project that would make my heart happy and this fairytale photo series is it!

  1. enchanting! I can't wait to see more photos from this series. :) (group shots! oh gosh, they are always something ridiculous, and the more people you add... it's all fun)

    1. seriously -- the more people you add......the higher the chances of someone looking drunk, or bizarre or just weird. even with all adults! it's still nearly impossible to get people smiling with eyes open at the same time! throw babies and toddlers into the mix....human comedy. actually, the group shots i took of one family came out really cutely hilarious...their toddler is running out of most every shot.

  3. Group shots - oh brother. We are tossing around the idea of getting my parents a family picture for Christmas. For the record, that includes Mom and Dad, their six children and five spouses, and 13 grandchildren (all under 10). It needs to be done, but I pity the photographer. From your point of view, which is easier - the traditional posed picture or the more modern "relaxed" style that is all over pinterest?

    1. WOW!!!!!!!! that is a LOT! I guess you need a good wide angle lens for that?? i love the more relaxed style but with more than 3 in a shot, that's hard. actually my mother in law has kind of mastered the group shot, she just lines people up and takes the photo. this is why i have no real desire to get into wedding photography, ha! i think for that many people, you need to pose them, scream ALL EYES ON ME, and then fire away. I've noticed even when you say 'all eyes on me'......someone still doesn't!!!

    2. "scream ALL EYES ON ME" - I love it!!! I think my criteria might need to be someone who isn't afraid to be bossy and loud. With that large a group, people need to stand where and how they are told and then FREEZE until it is time to take the picture. Maybe we need to focus on wedding photographers for this one - they are used to larger groups.

    1. i have a love hate relationship with the birds. I do like them, but I also wanted something more modern ~ less HEY I'M THE GIRLIEST GIRL OF THEM ALL! Not that there's anything wrong with that ;)

  6. I need to eventually get a Facebook account to check out your stuff on there! Your blog's background is lovely! It's one of the feature that stopped me in my tracks while I was browsing book blogs! But I think we all need to make change from time to time so go for it! The idea of a fairy tale photo series is wonderful! Please do share!

    1. oh goodness, well we'll see how long they stick around -- i'm so crazed these days, i probably won't get around to any redesigns for a good long while, so never fear, the birds will be here for awhile :)

I will definitely share the whole fairytale photo series I have planned!!!
