The Snow Queen

I have another fairytale photo for you today!

I really couldn't decide whether I wanted to call this one The Snow Queen or The Snow Angel. The Snow Maiden? Maybe you can help me figure it out. But I was pleased with how this one turned out, and I think she does look like some type of ethereal creature from the snow.

(Oh ~ speaking of the Snow Queen ~ RUN, don't walk, to see the movie 'Frozen'. It's amazing. I truly think it's one of the best kid movies I've ever seen. Yeah, that's right.)

I just ordered this book for Julia for Christmas time, and the art in it seriously makes my heat beat a little faster:

It's a 'The Snow Queen' chapter book! Retold by Sarah Lowes and knock-your-socks-off illustrated by Miss Clara (her work is just flat out amazing, SEE HERE). I'm slipping this baby under the tree for Miss J, with 'The Twelve Dancing Princesses' as a companion to go along with it. Fairy tales! As a chapter book! With illustrations to faint over, this is a chapter book meant for readers ages 6-10. Perfect for my kiddo!

I'm so excited about giving these as a present!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  1. I think Snow Maiden is the right title! She looks so demure and angelic! Snow Queen is such a great story! My boy has asked me a few times about it and I finally bought it for him for this Christmas as well but mine will be the edition illustrated by Mary Engelbreit! I can't wait for him to open it :) I have heard about Frozen but I was not sure I should go see it... Now that you are so enthusiastic though, I might reconsider!

    1. Oh you must see Frozen, you MUST! I think you and your son would both ADORE it, truly. I can't wait to see it again. I nearly cried 3 times, but really, it's not that sad, and the music is just wonderful. I can't endorse it highly enough!

oooooooh Mary Engelbreit! I love her!!! I should go look up her Snow Queen version.....

  3. I have those books on Big Sis's wish list, but I didn't realize they were actually chapter books! That's fabulous! I've actually read a translated version of the original Andersen to the girls, but it isn't an easy read.

I LOVED Frozen!!! My dad already got the girls Frozen dolls for Christmas, Elsa for the oldest and Anna for Little Sis.

BEAUTIFUL picture of your little miss!

    1. Yeah chapter books!!! I can't wait to see them!!!!! SO COOL about the dolls, that will be so fun for them!!!

Seriously. I LOVED FROZEN. I totally want to see that again. I'll be owning that one FOR SURE.

Julia is such a good sport. We did another fairytale photo shoot the other day, and we had a great time. We're trying to get a friend of hers to be our Goldilocks, this girl has perfect hair for it......

  4. Oh, this is a fabulous coincidence, Melissa! I just saw the billboard posters ot La Reine des Glaces on the way to the swimming pool and my eldest daughter, who knows how much I love that fairytale, suggested the whole family goes to the cinema as a pre-Christmas treat! You've convinced me.

PLUS, you may recall what a complete fan I am of Miss Clara's work. I've just purchased The Princess & The Pea in French - I will be posting about it soon on my blog - and I posted about the very book you are singing the prasies of here:

I also have The Twelve Dancing Princesses, again in French. So, you see? We're totally on the same wavelength!!!

    And breathe :-)
