Downton Abbey Tea & Treats

CHECK IT YO:

IS THIS COOL OR WHAT?? Well, I'll tell you right now, it's cool. I've been drinking this tea for several weeks now, and it is FABULOUS. Can you make out the name? Downton Estate Blend! Don't you LOVE? It's earl grey, flavored with vanilla, and let me tell you, it's the first vanilla flavored tea that I've ever liked, usually the vanilla is too much in other teas I've tried. This one is very subtle, and I don't put milk in it, just a sugar lump. We've begun using sugar lumps, and guess what, it's the best thing ever! Andrew thinks one sugar lump makes his tea too sweet, not me. I think it's perfect. My mom is even more of a sugar bug and like to put in 2 lumps. THAT'S TOO MUCH.

And look what else waltzed into my home. DOWNTON ABBEY MINCEMEAT TARTS. Omg these were super good, and I should know I tell you, because I usually get my tarts from a real genuine British bakery that makes amazing mincemeat tarts. These Downton Abbey ones had a ton of mincemeat filling in them and guess what else,

My daughter really IS my daughter and she loves mincemeat tarts! I was so surprised, 'cuz mincemeat is a taste I would have puked on as a little girl. I think it's kind of an adult taste, you know? My kid ate half a tart (I wasn't going to waste a whole tart on her if she didn't like it) and then demanded more.

(I'm not sure if Cost Plus is going to continue to carry these past the holiday season. They are also on Amazon, but currently unavailable.)

Sally was fascinated by this whole photograph-the-tarts endeavor I was attempting.

So I got all this fab from Cost Plus. And I sent Andrew to get more tarts after we ate them all, and the people at Cost Plus chuckled at him. Apparently these babies left the store as fast as they came in; when I got mine, there was exactly one tea and one box of tarts left and I grabbed as fast as I could. I didn't even look to see what it was that I was holding really, I just saw the words Downton Abbey and started grabbing. I'm like a British marketer's DREAM demographic.

My cat also loves Downton Abbey.

There's also a Lord Grantham Breakfast tea which sounds amazing, it has a hint of ginger, it's supposed to the tea version of sticky toffee pudding. OMG. I MUST HAVE IT. And there's an English Rose tea, which is caffeine-free.

How happy are you all about Downton being back on? The first week in January has become my official Happy Time because it's still holiday-ish and Downton Abbey is coming on and I can fool myself into thinking that I won't go bonkers from the lack of Vit D and grey skies everyday. I'm very good at playing these tricks on myself.

  1. Hello LOVELY Melissa! Can you hear me squeaking with excitement at the thought of a Downton Abbey tea blend? And I LOVE vanilla tea although since autumn I've been drinking my tea without sugar and I'm getting used to it. Anyway I'm going to order this if I may. I am a Mariage Frères tea addict usually. There teas are wonderful and their packaging is very sophisticated.

I also wanted to say or scream, perhaps, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU! May 2014 be filled with joy and love for you and your family.

ps I posted a few days ago about a book you might be interested in :-)

    1. I made my own mince tarts one year, but they were more trouble than they were worth -- easier and better to buy them ready made I think!

  3. I only went into World Market once during the holidays, and I was there for something very specific, so I purposely avoided all the Downton Abbey stuff! And I love vanilla tea! (I like sweet tea. I'm a two, or even three lump girl. I need to break the habit.)

Last night, I noticed the Christmas lights are still up around my favorite old, expensive, tasteful neighborhood are still up. Lots of pretty white lights. Kirstie Alley has 2 houses connected to each other, and they're both still lit up. I'm so glad. I hate when everything just suddenly ends.

    1. If you had been with me, we would not have avoided the Downton Abbey stuff. :) Did you notice that there was WRAPPING PAPER?? Sadly, I abstained. I still have my lights in a jar up, and my beloved Ikea star lights.

  5. I'm a bit behind on the whole "Downton Thing" but I am starting to get caught up (thank you Netflix). Maybe I'll get into tea next. By the way, I love your cat. I am generally not a cat person, but Siamese remind me so much of my Grandma, and seeing one makes me smile. Cats with personalities, those Siamese.
