7/52

(a portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week in 2014)

Julia: on the stairs at grandma's house. after seeing the photos I took of her in her hoodie, with rubber bracelets, messy hair, and her Seahawks tee shirt, she said, "Mom, this is the real me."

Hey, after today, I'm taking off.....the whole week! Gasp! I've got so much to do and just getting behinder and behinder. So I'm going to regroup, get organized, but then I'll be back and hopefully you will be too. I read an article recently about how 2013 was the year that blogs died. Do you think that's true? I hope it's not super true. I still love my various bloggys so so much!

  1. I love Julia's comment about your photo, and that she's so in touch with her true self. And, of course, I love the photo.

As to blogs dying, I read somewhere that it's largely due to the rising popularity of Instagram. It's definitely been happening in the modern quilt blog community. Many of the quilty blogs I've followed over the years have fallen by the wayside, and I know it's because people have started posting photos of their projects over on Instagram instead of writing about them. I've missed them a lot. :( But I have noticed that a few are coming back to blogging, having missed the ability to really talk about their projects since Instagram doesn't allow for much writing. We'll see if more keep coming back this year. I hope so... I'm not on Instagram or Facebook or Twitter (and have no plans to ever be) so it would be nice to hear from all of them again!

Enjoy your week off! I'll miss seeing you in my reader!!!

    xoxo

  2. Gorgeous picture! Have a great week off.

As for blogs dying, I've been noticing it but wondered if its more related to (gasp!) our age. . . . I know that I started reading blogs when both the girls were itty bitty and the writers were in similar situations - homebound! Now that the girls are bigger & busier & have more friends and places to be it would seem to be that the business of blogging would be a lot harder. Heck, I find finding time to read them challenging some days, I can't imagine trying to write them. I do think that Instagram has something to do with and all the book deals. I imagine that is a lot of added pressure to bloggers (oh, I don't have a book deal I must not be a good blogger, etc.) Its all sort of fascinating.

  4. Good luck catching up doll.

She's right btw. This is one of those super cool real ones that you will totally cherish when she's a grown up because it caught her in all her natural beauty. Well done!

  6. Take your time to regroup and come back stronger :) Good luck on your organization challenge! We all need those from time to time! Julia's comment made me laugh! She is becoming quite a strong-willed lady. It's good to see that in little girls! I didn't know about the blog world dying. I don't think blogs will ever go away though so lets hope the quantity may decrease but the quality will increase :)

  7. GAH!! What!! Blogs dying?!?!? OH MY GOSH!! True, I haven't been to any of my bloggy friends in like 3 months, but I've known they'd be there and I could go back and read them and see all their fun, even if I saw it months and months late…don't let blogs die!!

Also wow, I feel like I need to cram in a lot of stuff because you are gonna be taking a week off and I haven't been here in so long, but its actually the day after the day you wrote that post so you probably are already getting organized-- GOOD JOB! That needing to be caught up on things and just general life maintenance is why I am soooo much less on the ball visiting other blogs…and writing anything useful on my own blog (which is particularly bad considering Jane's comment above)…oh gosh…good luck to you!

Also, you are the star of capturing real moments in photos!! I love it!! I wishy wish wish I could get photos of our family and my girls to be more like real glimpses!! You rock at that!!

Hmmm, okay, happy week off! Do you really think blogs are dying? Because of instagram? That's sad…I'm not good at letting go of stuff.

    (obviously)

Oh boy, never a dull moment with a Whitney comment!

    xoxo
