'a portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week in 2014'

Julia: twirling in an unexpected sunny patch in her twirliest skirt. Please note the fearless pattern mixing going on her outfit!  I adore this pic. (i'm my own biggest fan, ha ha ha.) And if you follow my photo work on Facebook, you'll recognize today's picture as the B&W counterpart to the twirly pic in color I posted there last week. :)

We had a few nice days last week, temps in the mid 50's and sunny! And then it allllllllllll went away. Temps went back down to the mid thirties and a cold sleet fell all weekend. Are you familiar with sleet?? RAW weather. Stay inside weather. So that's what we did. Watched 'Brave'. Made oatmeal cookies. I read the new 'Domino'. Aside from my friend Jenny's art being featured in the issue, the rest of it was kind of meh. But good recipes!

I can't decide what to do about our vegetable plot this year. I call it a plot because it's not really a garden. Last year, the only thing that did well were the lettuces. I thought this year we would attempt to grow an English cutting flower garden, but Julia still seems keen on veggies.

It doesn't seem like it's March, it still seems very much February, very much winter. OH! Got the COOLEST book at the bookstore a few days ago, I will photo it pronto to show you, I can't believe I found such awesome. Well I think it's great anyway.

Got some photos of Julia printed out. Friends! Print your photos! Many of us deal so much with the online world and just-posting-pix-on-Facebook mentality, it's easy to forget how incredible it is to have a great picture physically in your hands, looking all glossy and fresh.

So wherever you are, whatever the weather, just remember......spring is coming.

  1. Sleet is so dangerous when you drive! It was the same for us. Sunny and warm and now it's dreadfully cold again >.< Good thing you stayed home. I think Julia rocks that outfit! The fearless pattern is totally something she can pull. I will need to follow your advice about photo printing. I just realized I have not printed a single picture of my daughter yet since she was born! Oh I need to make an album! Have a good week Melissa!

    1. i used to love looking at pix of myself as a baby/toddler in the album my parents made, when i was a little girl. it is so so important to make little photo books or albums for kids to look through! i truly believe it. the past couple of yrs, i've made photobooks on shutterfly of my favorite blog pictures. i just let the computer pick the layout, it's really pretty darn easy!

  2. I sooooo need to print out my photos. I long for the perfect photo album to put them in in, something simple and old fashioned, you know? I don't do scrapbooking anymore, so I'd love something with simple black pages that will hold up to small fingers turning pages over and over. There is nothing like flipping through old photo albums. It is such a great way to remember special times. xoxo

  3. Very sweet picture! I'm honestly kicking myself for not printing more of my favorite photos, before my external hard drive bit the dust. Waiting on my tax return, then we shall try to fix it, one more time. Excited to see what book you got! We're discussing a veggie garden, too. We skipped having any last year, because the ultra-hot temps burned everything up two years in a row. Then last year was perfectly mild! Grrrrr....
