(a portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week in 2014)

Julia: pretending to Pippi. And swingin'.

Well poop. I thought I was going to double up this week because I had this awesome superhero pic of Julia and I was going to pair it with a shot of her brand new braces (!!!!!), but.....I was paralyzed with indecision because I've taken so many pictures lately, and I didn't now which ones to choose and I waited till the very last minute to decide what to do, and and and.....

if you want to see the awesome superhero picture, you gotta go over to my Facebook page. And I haven't edited the braces picture yet.

and she dressed up like Pippi Longstocking and I got more interested in that. Oh and does this pic make you feel dizzy?? I feel positively ill looking at it!

Oh and right now I'm more than a little obsessed with out of focus pictures. I'm so obsessed that I am desperate to learn freelensing, which is where you take off your lens, hold it closely in front of the camera and take pictures that way. CRAZY. I'm gonna learn how. Some things are in focus, some aren't, sometimes there are light leaks and hey, don't try this at the beach or someplace really dirty where dust can get into your sensor! I might try this with an old camera I don't care about.....

    1. can you believe it??!!! she has two tiny little brace brackets on her two front teeth, one is purple and one is orange -- she'll be getting more in the fall. i'm going to encourage full on rainbow when that happens. apparently braces on younger kids is a thing now in the world of orthodontia......:)

    1. our dentist began warning us when she was 4 and 5! I was an orthodontic nightmare, and Andrew had a bunch of stuff as well, so we were not surprised one bit. she is THRILLED with her braces, thinks they are coolest things ever. Her palate expander....not as into that whole experience....:)

thank you about the photo! i wish I had taken it when one of my favorite photography forums was running their 'childhood' theme, but oh well :) -- I follow The Dark Room, Let Kids Dress Themselves and Evoking You, all on Facebook~ you would like those forums too!

  5. Awesome picture! I think it's so cute she got all dressed up like that. Pippi is such a fun character. I think my boy will need braces too. But for now, the dentist says he is still losing some of his baby teeth so we'll wait and see.

    1. we have a situation where things needs to get moved around so that some of her adult teeth can have room to come in! our dentist told us that it was time to go. her jaw needs to be moved around a bit. the orthodontist said we came in at the right time....for girls the time of most jaw growth begins at age 8 apparently, for boys, age 9. he said if we had waited and come in when she was 11 or 12, it would have been too late and he sees that all the time.....made my heart race I tell you!

    2. It's good you will get it fixed in time. It will get so complicated when they grow older.
