Cool Stuff I Like

May 23, 2014

My friends, a very happy Friday to you. Do you see Julia's caterpillar friend on her shoe? She and her neighbor were quite delighted with this little guy....until they became convinced that the caterpillar had poisoned them with his/her little fur. You'll be relieved to know that both my daughter and her friend are both alive and well and apparently quite UN-poisoned by the caterpillar. In other news, I'm on Week 2 of Twitter and I still love it. I gotta say though, I need someone super funny to follow. I thought Ricky Gervais would be that person, but apparently he has better things to do than hang out on Twitter much. Right now I'm most stoked on the AV Club.

Here's what I saw around for us to be happy about this week:

DIY Fairy Gardens.

I want this cookbook bad.

You will faint over the Picsees Etsy shop. "we are the wee ones and this is our little shop." ADORE.

A guide to all things strawberry.

A little Moomin history for you, because it's important, yo.

Tea bowls!

I was kinda of being a sillypants with my whole Rob Lowe post. But read this. Rob...YOU. ARE. AWESOME.

'The Falconer' needs to be in my hands RIGHT NOW or possibly sooner.

Sleepy Baby Bunneeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Thank you Jenny. Thank you forever.

Marzipan dark chocolate scones. (molly is the imaginary little sister i never had. she doesn't know this.)

Cool Book of the Week: 'Paul Meets Bernadette' by Rosy Lamb looks super adorable and NEW. Fresh. You know? I see soooooomanybooks. So when I see something that strikes me as new and different, I take notice. Paul the goldfish is not doing anything new and different....just swimming in circles until new pal Bernadette drops in his bowl. She teaches him to look through the glass and notice a whole new environment. The art is unreal. It's like, ART. The illustrations seriously look like paintings for the wall! What a gorgeous picture book.

Have a lovely weekend! Happy LONG weekend for those of you who have Memorial Day off. I will post on Monday, so if you have a minute, drop by and see me. XO

~Melissa

    1. I KNOW!!!! he made me cry too. I was esp torn up when he said oh honey you know i can't go in there....b/c it would make too much of a fuss. I admire that he and his wife have made their marriage last and that he is seemingly so into being an awesome father....

  3. Totally awesome post as usual! First let me say the critters I am most afraid of are caterpillars and worms. It took me a while to look at that photo without cringing LOL Glad the kiddos were not poisoned! I love love tea bowls! I need a whole evening of quiet to read over that Fairy Garden post and all the links! I really want to build one up for my new Mini Lalaloopsy flower fairies! Oh they are so awesome, I need to take pics of them! Talking of cookbook, I received the Crabtree and Evelyn cookbook you blogged about. Total Love! I need to get cooking this weekend!

    1. ooooooh. you got that book!!! ok here's what I've made, many things. The chicken pot pie. the chocolate squares (cook less than they say), the rice squares, the chicken salad, the GINGERBREAD and many other things. isn't it so so pretty?? ha ha about your bug phobia! I am afraid of spiders and snakes and my dad sent Julia a pretend rattlesnake baby in a bag and it makes a rattle noise and I screamed and threw it across the room.

Mega cute book! I want it. We heart fishes in this house.

I can't wait to make a fairy garden!

I heart Food52. I'm actually making a recipe from them for dinner tonight.

Awesome strawberry advice. I've never thought of roasting them.

Oh ROB. *sniffle* So good. Just tweeted my favorite line. I hope you don't mind. It was just SO good.

That bunny is beyond precious. Wow. So sweet. The happy stretching and trembling gets me. I'm totally saving it to show my kiddo.

  5. I've been wanting to see Paul Meets Bernadette! The library just got it in, so I'm hoping to have it in my hands soon. The Rob Lowe bit is so lovely and sweet and sad. We need to make a fairy garden to go with the fairy house. After checking out the Picsees Etsy shop, I made my way to the Picsees website. Cute stuff to explore! Love the bunny. Have a lovely weekend!

  6. The Rob Lowe post almost brought tears to my eyes, as I think about my girl going off to college some day. I never knew this parenting thing would be so hard and emotional at times, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. My daughter is everything to me!
