A couple things of note ~ my clever autumn-loving husband created a very cool cabinet to hold more of our
Also, Julia's been reading 'Mr. and Mrs. Bunny, Detectives Extraordinaire!' by Polly Horvath and illustrated oh so charmingly by the talented Sophie Blackall. I need to read this book because apparently it's about a place called Happy Hippy Land, and the girl's parents (who are happy hippies) are abducted by foxes and the girl has to enlist the aid of detective bunnies to help her. This sounds like someone had a crazy dream one night and then decided to write a book, yes?
And, our globe fixation continues. Did you know I have one? Yes I do. I really want a black one that has constellations. I read about one here, and now I'm super jealous. I got a thing in the mail from Highlights magazine, it's this Top Secret Adventures travel thing for kids, about $13 per kit and you can sign up for however many you want. I thought we'd commit to 6. You get a kit that details a country of your choosing, and it's a mystery of sorts. You get a book about the country, a puzzle book with clues about whatever the mystery is and stickers and a little passport. We also got a large world map, which came with the first kit. It's now hanging in J's room. She LOVED this whole deal, and "Mom, it's also educational!" was how she sold me on it.
How are you, my summertime warriors? I'm in my usual state of mildly panicked anxiety ~ it's my default mode. We've got one more month of summer to cram in, and I'm like....what if I miss some of it? What if we don't get enough summer done? Then it's grey for the next 9 months. But I think it'll be ok. We've eaten outside nearly every night. We're planning the rest of our summer plans with military precision. We will accomplish summer or go down trying. Hurray!
Love this post! I absolutely love sunny days, but every so often I love a cool, grey day. There is something wonderful about having all the lights on all day and drinking tea... so cozy! Your house looks lovely! And I love Julia's raincoat. Where's it from?
ReplyDeleteOsh Kosh!!! It's a GREAT coat, I've had great luck with their coats! Got J's winter coat, a navy peacoat, from there and I jumped on this raincoat when I saw it.
DeleteOh, I'm so jealous! I love gray, rainy weather! We had day after day of 100+ degree heat for the last week or two, until two days ago when the clouds miraculously blew in and cooled everything down to the mid-80s! I'm clearly living in the wrong state. xoxo
ReplyDeletemid 80's is a nice fine summer temp, albeit a smidge hot. :) 100+!!!! Too hot!!!!! you must be a Seattle-ite at heart :)
DeleteWe are madly packing for our summer road trip, which starts tomorrow. I feel your summer anxiety because I worry that I will DESTROY the trip by forgetting an essential item! My husband reminds me that they do have Walmarts along the way and that he will not forget his credit card. I generally enjoy these trips after we get home.
ReplyDeleteBTW - the book looks really interesting. I like the "Translated from the Rabbit" bit - that sort of humor really tickles my funny bone.. I will have to see if I can track this one down around here.
ha ha ha! one time we went on a summer trip with a lengthy car ride....and the husband forgot my bag!!!! he had to drive back and get it :)
DeleteYour photos are beautiful Melissa! I love autumn too and I can't wait for the cool weather to finally be here! That book looks promising and I want to read it now! (I love JUV lit!) and I'll try to convince my son to read it too. I think 60% of the books I have bought for the last year have been because of your blog. Baaad influence LOL I hope you can show us your new cabinet! I ♥ IKEA too!
ReplyDeletethat white cabinet thing in the living room pic -- that's our new cabinet! i call it a cabinet, i guess it's more of a CONSOLE. or sideboard. I don't know what the silly thing is, actually. :)
Deleteand thank you!! i'm so glad i was a bad (or good? pros and cons, eh?) book influencer!!! hee
DeleteIt's hot here again, although it looks like it might rain. We need rain! I loved that globe, too. And I love that book! I think Big Sis will get it for her birthday. There's a new(er) book out now, too! The Highlights thing sounds very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI love these photos. Mr. B likes the picture of Sally. He misses his Katie girl very much.
I like that pic of Sally too, heh. :) remind me to tell you about how she got out this summer and we thought she was gone forever!
DeleteI love globes. You know what I really want? I want a giant old school map to hang on the wall.
ReplyDeleteLOVE pics of your house. So warm, cozy, and whimsical.
Oh, thank you so much! I try and take pix of the clean bits. :) Have you seen those houses with an entire wall with a world map on it? It's a kind of wallpaper. I see it all over Pinterest from time to time. I'd love to do that but I worry I would want to change it out after a month ha ha ha!
