Cool Stuff I Like

September 5, 2014

Happy Friday!!! Mr. Andrew actually took this picture a couple weeks back when he and Julia and his mom went camping. (I couldn't go because I wasn't feeling well, big boo.) This was the view from outside the front of their tent. Summer and fall are wrestling together in the weather department around here lately. It'll be chilly and rainy one day and we're like YAY FALL! and now this weekend it's supposed to be mid-80's. But the weather peeps said that may be the last of those temps that we see this year. Didn't you want to know that? Isn't that why you come here, for my thoughts on the weather?

Would you rather have my thoughts on what's out there in internet land?

An ode to mashed potatoes.

Colorful, cozy & cute.

This cookbook needs to be in my life asap.

Got this little Japanese dolphin pencil sharpener for Julia's back to school pile.

Great sources for kid's jammies.

I'm utterly obsessed with this show. It's all I've watched for 2 weeks straight. It's the funniest, delightfullest, bestest, awesomest show ever.

Anne of Green Gables cookbook!!!!!!!!! (I actually have a friend who has it and I was going to borrow it last year and do a post on it and well, that never actually happened, but please enjoy this other post about it!!!)

Cool Book of the Week: 'The House That Mouse Built' by Maggie Rudy is pretty much the cutest thing I've seen in AGES. I see this book in my toddler nephew's future! (about little mice creating a home out of loaf of bread) I discovered Maggie's work via The Black Apple and my jaw just dropped. You MUST see Maggie's website, Mouses House. Go look. I'll wait. CAN YOU BELIEVE??? Did you see the little MOUSE MERMAID? Are you freaking out? Maggie has another book as well, called 'I Wish I Had a Pet', which just came out this past summer. The dioramas and miniature scenes that she creates are going to make you want to dive into the book and wish you could play with everything!

Have a lovely weekend! We're supposed to have a last blast of hot weather and then the rains descend. Someone posted this meme on Facebook that pretty soon it's going to PUMPKIN EVERYTHING 24/7. That sounds pretty awesome to me, I can't wait!

  1. Beautiful photo! Looks like they found an ideal camping spot. I love the Oh Dear Drea house tour. My house is small and dark, so I find myself admiring houses with open spaces and lots of light. And I always like what she does with Marlowe's room. Those pajamas look so sweet. I need to watch Parks & Rec. I love Amy Poehler, and I know it's on Netflix. I'm always so out of the loop. The only sitcom I watch is 30 Rock, in re-runs on late night syndication. I've seen them all at least twice, most of them a lot more than that... I knew you'd link to that Aunt Peaches post! :) I've wanted to see that picture book for a while. So cute. Anyway, tomorrow is Big Sis's birthday party, and I'm already having panic attacks about dealing with the kids at school that she did not invite. I'm such a people-pleaser, even when it comes to my kids' classmates. Sheesh. I've warned her, if there are any hurt feelings, she needs to come up with what to say, as sweetly as possible. Ugh. Have a lovely weekend!

    1. we just finished all of the seasons of 30 Rock, a couple of wks ago -- and I was so sad! I knew I needed another comedy to watch. I wasn't that thrilled to start on Parls and Rec, thought it wouldn't be that good -- I think it's the funniest show I've ever seen. For reals!

    2. Yeah, I tried watching it when it started, but it was disappointing. I've had multiple friends tell me how much better it gets, though. Between Upright Citizens Brigade, SNL, The Mighty B, and Smart Girls at the Party, I dearly love me some Amy Poehler.

  3. I love that mashed potatoes post, and I'm trying to commit it to memory because I know I'm going to need that advice when my kids hit the teen years. Home should always be *the* place of comfort for our children!

  5. Sweet pic!

I'm jealous. I want fall to arrive. It's still SUPER hot here. And humid. Grrr I hate humid. I pretty much dislike winter and summer and wish it was always spring and fall.

    That book is adorable.

  6. You're not going to be surprised about this, but I own a copy of The Anne of Green Gables Cookbook. It's still at my parents' house, though. It's definitely worth buying if you find a copy, especially if you love the novels. (I was obsessed!)

How much do I love one-pot recipes? Seriously. They can be absolute life savers, especially as I hate doing dishes. Blech.

  7. Melissa! Thanks for including my First Readers post, you're the best! Also- I need to learn to make a good raspberry cordial. One that will get my bosom friend and I properly looped. So I will be finding that Anne of Green Gables cookbook. And I've never seen Parks and Recreation yet, but I ADORE Amy Poehler- good news: after a year and a half with no TV, we moved into a converted school house yesterday and hooked up cable! So I'll find it and watch it presently. Great post!
