(a portrait of my daughter, once a week, every week in 2014)

Julia: holding colorful beads, in a colorful outfit, on our colorful quilt.

Good golly, I love Fall!!!!! Even the wet, sloppy fall we've had this year.

We had a family outing this past weekend to attempt a bit of fall color viewing - we were largely unsuccessful and at first, Julia was seriously not jazzed on the idea of our outing. But I brought along a little point and shoot camera that has a small strap attached, so she could wear it around her neck, and once we arrived at our destination, she thought taking her pix on a 'REAL CAMERA!' was the coolest thing ever. I'll use of the one of the pix I took of her snapping away as next week's Project 52 photo.

Andrew and I realized that it's pretty rare actually that just the three of us go on an outing together - usually outings include a grandparent, or a friend, or a group of friends. It was really fun to just be out as our own little unit! We ate snack at a pie bakery - there's something about eating pie out in the afternoon that makes it feel like an extra special treat. And we saw a bookstore that had the neato-est wall of clocks - I'll show it on the Julia's Bookbag Facebook page later in the week.

Would you like to know what we've been reading? I think you would, so I'll tell you, because I'm having a block thinking of anything else to say today - I've been reading The Lunar Chronicles series.
They're YA fiction re-imaginings of fairy tales, set in a sci-fi environment. The first book is about Cinderella, and she's called Cinder, and she's a cyborg. I'm on the third book right now, and they're really fun! (The third book is about Rapunzel; she's called Cress, and she's a computer hacker.)

Julia's been reading an American Girl Doll mystery book, I think it's this one about Caroline? Yep, it's that one. No idea what Andrew's reading.....

  1. I can't wait to get my girls cameras. I already have a little one set aside for my 3 year old. Crazy I know but I just think there is something sooooo special about getting a camera of your own.

  2. Those Lunar Chronicles books do look like fun. Perhaps I shall add them to my neverending list... I love this picture, by the way. I love your blankie!

    1. Two neighbors raved about the books, so I finally took the plunge since one neighbor happened to have all 3 of them! The third book is definitely the best, that one was super fun! I can't wait for #4 - it's called 'Winter' and it's about Snow White - her stepmom is the evil Queen who's been the villain throughout the entire series.

And thank you, thank you! I think this one's a framer. Ok so the blanky! Saw it while DRIVING, it was on the sidewalk outside this antique store. I pulled off and parked and went in, and it was a fair price that I managed to haggle down by 10%, and I got it. The lady said she put the blanket out so that people would see it and maybe come buy it, and I was like, that strategy totally worked!!

  3. I'll never forget handing over the new digital camera to my daughter for the first time-she was 10-at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. She went crazy with it, and took hundreds of pictures! She had such a great time, and she took some wonderful pictures.

I'm glad your family had such a fun outing-and pie in the afternoon sounds awesome!

  4. What a clever move you had to give Julia her own camera! Now you have totally inspired me and I will try to incite my son to enjoy his time with us in the outdoors with that trick!!! He is usually whining and dragging his feet LOL Briliant idea! That photo of Julia is great and I love the patchwork crochet mat she is lying on!
