a little valentine deco

February 9, 2015

A tiny peek at the Valentine paper chains I talked about getting in this post - aren't they sweet and festive? They really pack a wollop of color, which is very much needed right now. We've had 4, maybe 5? straight days of rain! I have no recollection as to where I got the 'Be Mine' banner - maybe from the craft store? I have another chain hanging from my kitchen window too. I love all the pink and red vintagey awesome. I can't thumbs up this paper chain kit enough!

I love Valentine's Day! I see it as a 'let's celebrate all things pink and chocolate' day. I think it's much more fun to celebrate with kids than to celebrate it as some grand romantic holiday.

Oh and I mentioned over the weekend on Facebook (come see me there!) that I've done a huge amount of Valentine book, card, and decoration pinning on my Valentine's Day Pinterest board, so if you need a last minute dose of inspiration, you might want to go check that out.

We usually have chocolate chip, pink tinted pancakes for Valentine's Day breakfast, and I get Julia a couple of treats. It's a fun prelude to her birthday, which follows not long after. This year I decided to even get my husband a little something (he usually gets a smile and a hug - and a pancake) from this lovely shop - he's getting a box of assorted cookies, because cookies are his Most Favorite Things in All The Universes.

I need to think of something festive to make for dinner - I've seen the idea of pizza with little heart shaped pepperoni's, but I'm totally pizza'd out.

And what would be a good family Valentiney movie to watch? IS there such a thing? There's a Charlie Brown show right? Oh em gee - forget that. After Julia goes to bed, I'm going to watch 'Chocolat'! I've been meaning to watch it again for ages! Andrew can go play a video game or something. But I'm watching 'Chocolat'!

  1. I love the paper chain! Whoever scheduled Valentine's Day in the middle of February did a real favor to all of us who live in the more northern parts of the north hemisphere. Whether you have rain and gloom or snow and grey, Valentine's Day sure perks things up.

    1. one year before Andrew and I were married, we had a Chocolate party - it was so awesome! I made chocolate fondue in a crock pot! A surprising amount of friends came - but it's so hard to go out tp eat on Valentine's Day, I don't know why anyone does it. So I guess they were happy to show up on our doorstep! :)

  4. So happy! I don't think we can fill the world with enough hearts, but that's just me. Even better when they're Victorian-inspired. Yes, Chocolat sounds like a perfect treat, and just the thing as it was shot before Mr. Depp had gone off the deep end of celebrity and was still an acTOR. Enjoy!

  5. When I was a kid, we never really decorated for any holiday but Christmas, and I have a friend who even before we all had kids used to decorate her house for each holiday- with throw pillows, table cloths, special plates, etc. I never appreciated it until my oldest was 2 or 3, then I just wanted to plunge myself into it all and make every holiday fun and special. I ADORE your paper chains! And I love your tree- can't wait to see this year's Easter tree, too!
