cool stuff i like

Happy Friday! Lookee my red shoes!! Fun fact - my mom is 4 inches taller than I am, and yet we wear the exact same shoe size. I'm a grown woman and my mommy still buys me shoes. I capital 'L' LOVE my red shoes! Guess what happened to my new red shoes last night. I stepped in Nomi the puppy's poop. AGAIN. (this is at least the 5th time. at least.) Sigh. So I had to bust out the jet spray setting of my hose to spray it off and then wipe the underside down a thousand times with Clorox wipes. Pretty sure that soon I'll be forgetful and leave the shoes out and Sally the cat will eat my laces and then I won't be able to wear my shoes anymore because it will take me at least a year to remember to go to the drugstore to get new laces, and that will be the end of my jazzy new red shoes. I'm SO glad I took a picture to preserve them in all their untarnished glory! #problemsthatarenotreallyproblems

Cool Book of the Week: So we recently watched the classic film 'Swiss Family Robinson' for family movie night, and Julia has now watched it twice and just LOVES it. And then I was at a local toystore (that has a nice book department) looking for a birthday present for one of J's pals, and I spied this line of graphic novels from Campfire Classic. And they had a 'The Swiss Family Robinson' edition! So I got it, because in addition to being totally into that movie, Julia is also TOTALLY obsessed right now with comics. Making her own, reading them.....she's just way into comics right now. Anyway, there's a whole line of these comics! 'Gulliver's Travels' and 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'The Land that Time Forgot' and tons more. Not too long, but very big on cool comic art style, these are fun, travel friendly graphic novel versions of classics that I think any comic loving kiddo would love. Good for ages 8-12.

Have a lovely weekend! Just realized I haven't touched on any Easter fare yet. I've done a ton in the past though! Click on 'Springy' in my category cloud in my right sidebar and Easter posts should pop up. Or type in 'Easter' into the search box, also in my right sidebar. Should bring up some of my past Easter picturebooks that I've covered.....

  1. cool...more comic books are always welcome here. I'm off to check them out, then try to get the new season of Veep for "my husbands birthday". Have you seen any Veep? SO SO great!

    1. I have never watched 'Veep'!! And I've heard it's awesome! Adding it to the must watch list because soon 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' on Netflix will be over and I'll need a new funny show to watch :)

  2. One more season of Downton! There's still one more season!

I've thought about starting an X-Files marathon, to gear up for the new stuff. I never did watch the last season. I was tired. I missed both movies, too. It was once my favorite series, but it dragged everything out too long.

I'm doing a post next week on some fairy tale / kid lit graphic novels, but a different series! How funny! I knew which Easter egg hunt you were posting before I clicked the link (because, duh) and I love the birthday books, of course. xoxo

    1. I was halfhearted about the last season and only watched a handful of eps. The movies were meh. Sometimes when we so bored of everything to watch, we'll watch old vintage shows from the Seasons 1-3. Oh man, when that show was in the early days, it was the BEST. Just the BEST BEST BEST.

Can't wait to see your fairy tale graphic novels!!!! Julia is so into the whole deal!

    1. I know there's another season, but but but....what about Mrs. Hughes and Carson???? I swear I would totally watch a spinoff about them running their seaside hotel or whatever that plan they had was all about!!!

    2. A spinoff would be great! And then old characters could visit. I'm going to miss all the Downton Abbey characters, heck, I'll even miss Thomas.

  5. It's uncanny how similar our kids are -- Will is also way into comics now! Garfield is at the top of his list (he's reading my books because I was way, way into Garfield too). It's like milestones for older kids -- we should add first chapter books, first jokes, first pokemon card. HA

  6. I have tears in my eyes for that story of the woman who adopted the 20 year old girl. I would totally do that and love the crazy out of her. It's so amazing to be old enough to have had a daughter 20 years ago. I mean, my mom was 24 when I was born, so, it makes perfect sense. But I was so old when Lulu was born!

Also amazing find was the BuzzFeed article. And me having just spent my tax refund on Tea Collection. Darn it!

    Love this list.

    1. that story seriously got to me. my mom was 26 when I was born! i can't take credit for that awesome shopping link - my pal Julia who lived in the same neighborhood I did and we went to high school together, she sent me the link. She sends me awesome tidbits of news! and so does another friend that I grew up with. I get so much help with my Friday posts!

  7. My brother and I were crazy over Swiss Family Robinson when we were kids. In fact, it is the only book I ever remember him reading. That story just has that certain something.

    1. Guess what, I've never read the book OR seen the movie until recently!!! Crazy! I always thought it was too 'boyish' when I was young -- didn't fit into my 'all fairies all the time' mentality that I had when I was a little girl, ha ha ha :)
