cool stuff i like

Happy Friday my friends! Oh please forgive the deafening silence this week. And last week. I'm having a hard time getting it together. For the life of me, I couldn't get anything done. (I was working on sessions, so I was at least getting that done!) I have at least a half dozen posts I want to work on and I just could not get the photos loaded onto the computer. I could barely even get a photo on here for today. I took several and hated them all. I pretty much hate this one too, but when in doubt, take pictures of your books. The color of this photo reflects my mental state! I tried adding text. Hated that. Made AMAZING brownies, a new recipe. Tried taking pictures of it.  Brownies are very hard to photograph. Hated those pictures, so I scrapped that idea. Oh to heck with it all! Anyway, this is my green and blue shelf of books. What? Organizing by color is so 2009? These things are meaningless to me.

Despite my lassitude, (how's that for an old fashionedy word!), there are always fun things out there to see:

10 Summer activities to do with your kids. (thanks to my pal Shannon for the link!)

Such a cute little mini-house. (also, for the fiftieth millionth time, I want to live in Sweden.)

Paint ideas for Anglophiles.

Gooey gooey cake.

Love this dress for summer.

This was a fascinating read.

I want to be having this picnic.

Just found a blog called TEA AND COOKIES.

My Very Helpful Husband thinks we need this to be in our lives.

A girlfriend of mine transformed a bus (named Ophelia) into a trailer home on wheels, and is currently driving around the country in it, and is writing about it. She's amazing!

Cool Book of the Week: Chronicle Books has just published a brand new book called 'Pool', by Jihyeon Lee that looks just magical. It's wordless, but the pictures effortlessly convey the story of two shy children who put their imaginations to good use upon meeting at a community pool. This one looks like an instant treasure. Perfect for summer!

Have a lovely weekend! It's been hot here the past few days. Yesterday was our first 80 degree weather day of the year. I love this time of year, before it gets too, TOO hot - I open every single window in the house and leave them open all day long. I'm a great one for 'fresh air', I hate it when the air is stuffy so I try (key word) to even open them in the winter sometimes. So I'm very extra thrilled when I can open every window in every room and it's just....nice. Not too hot and just airy and nice. Although we just moved the location of the cat/doggy garbage pail so sometimes a whiff of not-so-nice wafts in. I had to ruin it didn't I? Let's go back to imagining the nice open windows and the clean fresh air!

  1. Yes. Why don't we live in Sweden yet? We need to work on that. And I'm a HUGE fan of Design Mom, that's a wonderful bit she wrote, isn't it? I love that she sits back and lets her children chart their own course. For that matter, why don't we live in France yet? We need to work on that.

    1. I've been following along with her schooling posts on her kids, and it's really interesting! I can't imagine all that this woman gets done, between her kids, her projects like Alt Summit and her blogging and book endeavors. I admire people like that so much! I can barely make my bed.

YES. why don't we live in Sweden or France? I've decided. I'm going to will it into being. Sometime before Julia leaves our house, I want to spend a month in either Scandinavia or Italy or France. And rent a little flat of some kind and just be there for several weeks. If I start planning now, maybe in 5 years I can make it happen!!

  2. Pool looks cool. :) We're already doing a lot of that list! Or we will start, when our housecleaning is finished, which should be today. We're signing up for a lot of indoor stuff because the rain has been crazy around here. (Although not Texas/Oklahoma bad, thank goodness.) YES to the mini-house and living in Sweden. (Or Norway. Or Finland or Denmark.) Oh, that picnic! If our weather would cooperate...

  4. Oh Pool looks beautiful! Its not a cheap one but my kids spend a lot of time in a pool (sadly not outdoor, outdoor pools are almost non existent in rainy Ireland) and I think they might "need" this one.

    1. I much prefer pools to beaches. I was about 6 or 7 or 8 or something when 'Jaws' came out. My mom had the book laying around the family room. I was scarred for life by the cover of that book! Pools seemed like a much safer place for me to swim, ha ha ha! I was/am SO afraid of sharks.
