my origami paper garland

Ok friends, I am VERY pleased with myself right now. I made a pretty thing! (I just realized I should have titled this post, How Many Ways Can You Take a Picture of the Same Thing on the Same Window) I wanted to do something springish and cheerful to celebrate Children's Day on May 5th. I had origami papers and some cherry blossom wrapping paper that I bought awhile back, thinking I was going to use the wrapping paper to make paper lanterns. Well, the wrapping paper was too thin to make lanterns and so I made them into streamer thingys with a fringed edge.

Let me back up from this fascinating story of my paper and tape. And paper clips! First I hung up a length of some old fabric washi tape I had. I didn't have enough so I had to put up not one, not two, but three scrap pieces of ribbon, which is actually old fabric washi tape that I had leftover from Valentine's Day. I tied them all together to make one long rope to string from my window.

Then I paperclipped the squares of origami paper. I was going to stop there but it looked a bit sparse. So after failing with the paper lanterns, I cut the paper into strips, cut a fringe at the bottom and taped them to the big string.

All this you see here is pretty paper, ribbon, tape, and paper clips. That's it! On the craft measuring stick of life, this is like a negative 2, it's so easy. But it looks so pretty! After I'm done hanging it in the living room for awhile, I told Julia she could have it for her room. Did I already mention that I was so delighted with myself??

    1. In Hawaii where I grew up, there was Girls Day and Boys Day, holidays that came from Japan. So that's how I knew about it! Now Boys day has kind of been incorporated into Children's Day, or something like that. The traditional decor is flying paper carp fish, one per child (or boy). On Girls Day, traditional Japanese dolls were displayed :)

  8. Wow, that is so pretty and springy! And also clever because that it's just paper clipped because you can still use the origami paper when you're finished with it!
