cool stuff i like

Happy Friday! I'm having immense writer's block. It's a rough road, having to write an entire paragraph here in my Friday post, I tell you what. So I'll tell you some random thoughts instead. I bought blackberries. So early! Everything is early this year. I'm going to make my first cobbler of the season; I usually don't get to making cobblers until August. I hurt my hand. Not sure how, but I'm going to blame Instagram and my phone and my non ergonomic desk. Or the vacuum cleaner? We saw 'Inside Out' and I cried three times. I loved it, but but but.....I don't think it's the best movie Pixar ever made, like many are claiming. I don't think it's better than 'Toy Story' or 'Finding Nemo', or the first half of 'Wall-E', or 'Brave'. (i'm not linking to all of those films, i expect you all to know about these things) But it was indeed great, and you and your kiddos should totally see it. I also saw 'Jurassic World' with my mom, and that was great fun, but I would like to request that the next one be ENTIRELY about Chris Pratt 'n those raptors, because that was easily the best aspect of the film.

This week's list:

I heartily second this notion.

Chamomile cake with honey frosting. You will FAINT when you see how pretty and summery this is!

Beautiful home tour - I love how the Persian rug and blue pillow theme shows up throughout the house.

I'm very intrigued by this Japanese skin care line.

This was super interesting.

Look at this cool slant book!

My friend Lauren went to Cornwall and has some lovely pix up on her blog.

HA HA HA - Julia also is aghast at "egg smell".

MORE RAINBOWS. MORE. (I would like to give this lady the biggest virtual high-five!)

Lots of sale action right now at Olive Juice kids.

Cool Book of the Week: 'The Picnic: Recipes and Inspiration from Basket to Blanket' by Marnie Hanel, Andrea Slonecker, and Jen Stevenson. I WANT THIS SO BADLY. I love picnics. I love the idea of picnics. I love picnic food, even if eaten indoors. I love indoor picnics as well! Now, I don't really go on many picnics, but like I said, I like the IDEA of them, and I'm slightly obsessed with picnic cookbooks. I have several. I'd like to add this one to the pile. Isn't it crazy gorgeous?? There's a gingham ribbon bookmark! It's all in the details, friends. I love that it's illustrated. There are recipes like apple coleslaw, zucchini and apricot couscous, cherries-pistachio-and-mint salad, oolong iced tea, banana pudding parfaits, and Japanese potato salad.

Have a lovely weekend! I'll be hiding from the 90+ degree temps. How can I possibly be asking, in JUNE, if it's autumn yet?

  1. Before I even get to the links I'm just going to say CHRIS PRATT! (And I haven't seen Jurassic World yet!)

    1. honestly, this man can do no wrong in my eyes. i hope he doesn't do anything really lame in his life, or if he does, I'd like to remain in ignorance. he's yet to be in a movie worthy of his skills. i'd actually LOVE to see him in an Indiana Jones reboot! even though he's so totally different from Harrison Ford. #fangirl

  2. I had to force myself off Sweet Paul's website-I could see myself spending the entire morning there :) Thanks for pointing me in his direction!

    1. oh he's the GREATEST! I really wish his mag was regularly sold in stores, I'd totally get a subscription - I love his crafts and his recipes and his styling -- he's like how I always hoped Martha Stewart WOULD be - happy things, good recipes, accessible decor - I just love his style! and he's NICE. i'm a huge fan!

  3. I know! Is anything better than Toy Story? I don't think so. I think I might order The Slant Book too. Its either that or a Mango sweatshirt which I absolutely do not need.

    1. isn't that Slant book awesome? Carter is amazing. She's the most in the know about the coolest books! really, Toy Story - I think it's hard to top that one. That's a practically perfect film!
