cool stuff i like

Happy Friday! Go check out this week's 5 Hours 'til Bedtime, the shots this week are so fun! The Lunar New Year is on Monday February 8, and I feel woefully unprepared. I guess I'll be cleaning cleaning cleaning all weekend long, trying to get all the bad luck out before the new year. You guys know this about me right, that I'm much more keen on Happy Chinese New Year than December 31 new year's eve? I think I might actually try this year to make my own dumplings (see below link). And I think I'll wash my hair late on Sunday night so I don't have to wash it the next day. I typically wash most every day otherwise I'm just kind of greasy looking. You're not supposed to wash, cut your nails or your hair, or sweep or do any kind cleaning on the day of the new year. (you can read about more Lunar New Year customs here.)

Things to look at this weekend:

A whole lot of Superbowl recipes.

Seriously. How excited are you for this movie?? I know, I keep squawking about it.

Now's the time to be checking out my Valentine's Day Pinterest board.

A picture book about dumplings.

Tea party in a box. (found via the dumplings link above)

Pudding Chomeur. My darling friend Shannon raved about it, sent me the recipe, and says it is AMAZING.

And my pal Christina clued me into the fact that this exists. Look at the narrators!!!!

Oh my word. If I had all the $ in the world, I think I'd want a mega apartment pretty close to just like this.

Trail mix oatmeal.

9 books to read in February.

Cool Book of the Week: 'Be Mine : 25 Paper Projects to Share the Love', by Sally J. Shim, looks like a fun thing to assist you in getting your Valentine's Day craft party on. It's supposed to be good for kids and grown ups - but what I find most intriguing is that the photography in the book was done by one of my photo heroes, Max Wanger - the king of California cool and negative space compositions. So I'm fairly certain that every photo inside will be visually stunning.

Have a lovely weekend! The Superbowl is this weekend right? I have no idea who's playing. I've watched maybe 2 or 3 Superbowls in my life. I'll be cleaning my toilets instead.

    1. Cleaning is happening here! Cutting hair is not. I'm so undecided about what to do with my hair lately that I'm just not doing anything - just letting it grow and do whatever it wants - it's a bit freeing in a way - i'm sure i'll get frustrated at some point and cut it and then the whole process will begin anew....

  3. That is an epic Pinterest board. I love Valentine's Day like no one really should. It's not about my awesome husband. It's just so perky and fun!

That cake reminds me of your birthday cake, only with the chocolate outside!

    Great list, once again.

    1. oh em gee you SERIOUSLY made my week! Thank you!!!! I'm so so glad. And ha ha ha, I think I could pretty much quite this blog except for my Cool Stuff list and I think no one would bat an eye, tee hee! I love doing them. And part of the reason I love doing the lists is because I always loved seeing them on other blogs, and I wanted to make lists that catered specifically to stuff I liked. for real, all this stuff goes on my personal Pinterest boards - SO happy that others like it too!

  5. Yay Ghostbusters! I think my whole house could fit inside the main living area of Liev Schreiber and Naomi Watts's apartment. Sigh.

I need to go make chocolate chip pan cookies for Mr. B's birthday now.

    2. They're really not that interesting. Instead of baking the Toll House recipe in cookie form at 375, you spread the dough in a pan and bake it at 350. The get crusty around the edges, which he likes. I prefer regular cookies myself, but it's his choice.
