'The Chess Queen Enigma' by Colleen Gleason? It's the latest in her series about Stoker & Holmes - that would be Evaline Stoker and Mina Holmes (the sister of Bram and the niece of Sherlock Holmes, which I have to say is tad tricky because Mina was the main female character from Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' novel but hey.)
Ok I am going off asap to see if my library has these. Don't they look so fun? YA steampunk mystery. I'm outraged that books like this didn't exist when I was a young girl. I would have FREAKED OUT over books like these, featuring the later-Victorian London time period. I'm freaking out now. Evaline, is a daring young aspiring
vampire slayer, who loves thrill and excitement and derring-do. Mina is a chip of the old sleuthing block, preferring a more academic approach to mystery solving - which requires her to use her scientifically-based detective skills.
Also, please check out and admire the covers. I love a good cover, my friends. I've bought many books just because of their covers. I have sky high hopes that these are fun and cute, and they just seem like the right thing to read while drinking some Earl Grey with shortbread cookies. I would say I should begin making book pairings with teas and treats, but I think there a few blogs that already do that....
